About Boston Prep Boston Prep is a college-preparatory charter public district, made up of a single-site middle and high school. In 2025-2026, our community will include 700 students in grades 6-12, nearly 500 alumni, over 150 faculty members, and hundreds of families. The majority of our students and families reside in Dorchester, Roxbury, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. This is a newly created role that will be instrumental in shaping the employee experience, attracting mission-aligned talent, and ensuring legal compliance under Massachusetts state law and DESE charter regulations.The Director will manage an HR & Talent Associate and jointly manage the Business Manager along with the CFO. This position will partner closely with school leadership to support a staff of approximately 150 educators and professionals.Essential Job Functions:Talent Acquisition & Recruitment:Develop an annual recruiting calendar aligned to the school's hiring timelineManage full-cycle recruitment for instructional and non-instructional staff, including job posting, candidate screening, interview coordination, and offer management with support of HR and Talent AssociateMaintain current talent pipeline, partnerships, alternative certification programs, and local teacher preparation programsSupport the design and implementation of an onboarding program for new team membersHR Operations & ComplianceEnsure school-wide compliance with Massachusetts General Laws (MGL) governing employment, CORI/SORI background check requirements, and DESE educator licensure requirementsOversee accurate maintenance of personnel files, I-9 records, and educator licensure tracking in compliance with DESE requirementsManage all HRIS data entry, reporting, and system integrity (experience with platforms such as ADP or Bamboo HR preferred)Employee Relations & Culture:.Serve as a trusted, confidential resource for staff on employee relations matters, workplace concerns, and conflict resolutionLead investigations into complaints of discrimination, harassment, or misconduct in compliance with state and federal obligationsSupport the Title IX Coordinator in documenting and investigating complaints, maintaining required records, and coordinating Title IX training for staff and studentsPartner with school leadership to foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace culture aligned with Boston Prep's valuesSupport staff recognition programs, employee wellness initiatives, and engagement surveysPerformance Management & Professional DevelopmentSupport the annual performance evaluation cycle for all staffPartner with leadership to support organizational initiatives and key prioritiesManage the progressive discipline process, performance improvement plans, and separation proceduresTeam LeadershipPartner with organizational leadership on organizational priorities and school initiativesDirectly supervise, develop, and mentor the HR & Talent Associate and the Business ManagerSet clear goals and provide regular coaching, feedback, and professional development for their teamAdditional Expectations and Responsibilities:This is a five day a week onsite positionAdditional responsibilities, including but not limited to supervising lunch periods, managing swipe and front desk duties, and supporting other school duty assignments.Demonstrates flexibility and a commitment to the school's mission by undertaking additional responsibilities and contributing to school-wide initiatives as needed, even when not explicitly outlined in the job description, to support the overall success of the school community.Maintenance of Organizational Culture:Engage in continuous learning and seek regular feedback.Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational best practices.Adhere to all school policies, procedures, and state regulations, including maintaining accurate records and preparing required reports.Education, Qualifications, and Certifications/Licensure:Education:Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in HR Management, Education, Business Administration, or a related field strongly preferredRequired Qualifications:Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a management or leadership roleDeep knowledge of Massachusetts employment law and DESE charter school requirementsExperience in a school, charter school, or mission-driven nonprofit settingDemonstrated ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrityExceptional interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills across all levels of an organizationCommitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and the mission of college access for all studentsPreferred QualificationsSHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR certificationExperience with Massachusetts educator licensure and DESE compliance requirementsFamiliarity with HRIS and applicant tracking systems (ATS).
