Adjunct Faculty Employer: Cape Fear Community CollegeLocation: Wilmington - Downtown Campus, NCJob Number: 21-00304Division: Economic & Workforce DevelopmentOpening Date: 02/04/2026Closing Date: ContinuousPosition Description DEFINITION: To provide classroom instruction to college students through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions and testing.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:Receives general supervision from the Lead Barber Instructor, the corresponding Senior Technician assigned to the department, Associate Dean and the Dean of Continuing EducationExercises functional and technical supervision over studentsDuties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions) ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS:Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to studentsPrepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activitiesDevelop and prepare supplement materials to enhance textbook lessonsDevelop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade record individual scoresProvide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriateMaintain accurate records of student attendance and performanceMaintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to class rosters, registration forms, paysheets, attendance forms and grade rostersOversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelinesAssist with the recruiting, advising, and retention of studentsAssist in the evaluation of studentsParticipate in applicable college activitiesAssisting in the maintenance of industry contacts for the purpose of keeping instructional materials current with advances in the occupation/academic field contactsCommunicate with other staff and faculty regarding ongoing implementation and evaluation of assigned instructional programsParticipate in systematic program evaluationManage the classroom/laboratory; including equipment, supplies, and other materialsPromote the barbering program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain studentsStay current on industry changes as it relates the programComplete program evaluation and follow-upMaintain certification and continue professional development as neededOther Important Functions:Ensure the adherence to safe and appropriate work practices and proceduresRespond to student or public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely mannerDemonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous substances such as bloodborne pathogens; continually undergo training and train students in such proceduresPerform other duties and responsibilities as assignedQualifications QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:Operations, services and activities of a comprehensive and modern academic programPrinciples of classroom managementMethods and techniques of classroom and laboratory instruction related to the area of instruction.Operational characteristics of instructional equipment and tools used in the classroom or laboratoryPrinciples and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administrationPrinciples and practices of curriculum development and instructional teaching strategiesCurrent trends, research findings and developments in the area of assignmentAbility to:Independently perform classroom and laboratory instructional activities in the area of instructionOperate a variety of instructional equipment in a safe and effective mannerAnalyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goalsInterpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulationsCommunicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writingEstablish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of workMaintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: Making observationsReading and writingCommunicating with othersOperating assigned equipmentHandling varied tasks simultaneouslyMaintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which include the following: Standing or sitting for extended periods of timeOperating assigned equipmentHandling varied tasks simultaneouslyBending, stooping, climbing or lifting up to 50 poundsMaintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of: Making sound decisionsResponding to questionsDemonstrating intellectual capabilities.Experience and Training Guidelines:Minimum Education/Training:Must currently be licensed as a barber and as a barber instructor in North CarolinaIf you do not have your barbering instructor license, CFCC will provide guidance to the right candidate to become licensed to teach.High school diploma or equivalent requiredMinimum Experience:Must have minimum of 5 years barbering experienceMust have a minimum of 1 year teaching experiencePreferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:Associates degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferredSupplemental Information Special Instructions to Applicants:This position REQUIRES UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS AND/OR TRAINING CERTIFICATIONS be submitted in addition to the application.
