SQL Database Administrator

Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to provide remote database administration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational support for enterprise SQL Server environments. The resource will work closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure database availability, reliability, performance, security, and operational efficiency.The engagement will initially focus on ongoing maintenance and operational support, with potential opportunities to contribute to automation, infrastructure improvements, upgrades, migrations, and database performance initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform day-to-day administration and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Server environments.Monitor database health, availability, performance, capacity, and system alerts.Troubleshoot database issues, failures, connectivity problems, and performance bottlenecks.Analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, execution plans, and database performance.Manage database backups, restores, recovery processes, and disaster recovery activities.Support SQL Server upgrades, patching, migrations, and infrastructure changes.Perform database health checks and proactively identify potential operational issues.Assist with automation of recurring DBA and maintenance activities.Manage incidents and service requests according to defined operational procedures.Participate in root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and support records.Collaborate with infrastructure, application, development, and security teams.Provide recommendations for improving database reliability, performance, monitoring, and support processes.Required Qualifications5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator.Strong experience administering enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments.Hands-on expertise in SQL Server installation, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting.Strong knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization.Experience with backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts.Strong T-SQL skills and ability to troubleshoot complex SQL/database issues.Experience with SQL Server upgrades, migrations, patching, and environment maintenance.Experience working with database monitoring and alerting tools.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a remote support environment.Preferred SkillsMicrosoft SQL Server certifications such as MCSE, MCSA, or relevant Microsoft certifications.Experience supporting large-scale or high-volume SQL Server environments.Experience with SQL Server Always On, clustering, replication, or other HA/DR technologies.Experience with automation using PowerShell or similar scripting technologies.Exposure to cloud database platforms such as Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance.Experience with infrastructure modernization, database migrations, and upgrade projects.ITIL or similar IT service management experience.Experience participating in 24x7 or extended-hours production support environments.Support & CollaborationPosition may be performed remotely from onshore, nearshore, or offshore locations.Candidates must be able to maintain sufficient working-hour overlap with U.S. Eastern Time (EST/EDT).The resource should be available to support incidents, operational activities, maintenance windows, and scheduled database activities as required.Strong communication, documentation, escalation, and incident-management practices are expected.
