Job Description - Meat CutterFLSA Status: Non-ExemptSalary Range: $15.16-26.00/HOURReports to: Meat ManagerDepartment: MeatGeneral Description of PositionThis role ensures the store's meat department operates at the standards set by the company, driving sales and maximizing profitability. The Meat Cutter delivers the highest level of customer service and satisfaction by following the company's meat merchandising plan and trimming /preparing standard cuts of meat as outlined in the Meat Cutter Resource Manual. The Meat Cutter demonstrates excellent teamwork, interpersonal skills, and commitment to the success of the team.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesWorks under the direction of the Meat ManagerUses knives and power equipment, cuts and/or packages authorized beef, pork and poultry items according to Leevers policies and proceduresWraps, weighs and prices cuts of meatLabels packages according to COOL, USDA and Leevers standardsEnsures that displays and case signs are updated appropriately, and that meat is merchandised and presented to maximize salesMay assist with product orderingMaintains proper date rotation for dated and undated products per Leevers policy, both in the display case and in the storage coolersPrepares and places meat cuts and products in the display counter according to Leevers procedures so they will appear attractive and appealing to the customersReceives, inspects, and stores meat upon delivery, to maintain cold chain and ensures meat qualityEnsures excellent sanitation and quality standards are met daily which adhere to Leevers policyFollows and executes all Leevers policies and procedures which includes but is not limited to: COOL, Food Safety, Sanitation, Meat/Produce Scale operation, Mark Downs, Inventory Processes, Meat POG's, Meat Cutter Resource Manual, Daily Manager Signoff and Meat Cutting ListResponsibilities may include other perishable and non-perishable related duties necessary to maintain optimal store performanceProtects company property, funds and merchandisePerforms other duties as assignedSupervisory ResponsibilitiesThis is a non-management position. This position does not have the authority to make decisions concerning hiring, terminations, demotions, promotions, or otherwise take tangible employment actions.Position QualificationsKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesCompany work history will be strongly considered, including attendance, work performance, safety, policy compliance and performanceProficiency in basic math skills required, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and divisionMust be able to read, write and speak in English. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication, interpersonal skills. Language proficiency in Spanish or other languages is desired.Must be dependable and flexible, including a willingness to work in other areas of the store, as needed with little or no advanced noticeExcellent customer service, teamwork and problem-solving skillsMust adhere to a uniform dress codeEducation and ExperienceMust be 18 years of ageHigh School Diploma or equivalent (Required)0 - 1 years of experience safely using manual pallet jacks, hand tools and power equipment, including but not limited to knives, wrappers, scales, slicers, cubing machine, and power saw (where certified to cut meat) (Preferred)Successful completion of Leevers Meat Cutter Training Program within three monthsTechnical SkillsAbility to operate and understand the meat scaleCertificates and LicensesNone requiredPhysical ActivitiesWhile performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to:Stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hearReach, bend, twist, balance, bend forward, stoop or walk for the majority of the time on duty.Lift and transport various objects weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight may reach 100 poundsRequires the ability to move heavy product with assistanceRequires the ability to push, pull, grasp and use sawing motions for extended periods of timeThe company will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions and expectations.Environmental ConditionsThis position is performed primarily in a temperature-controlled environment where the temperature ranges from 38-45 degrees Fahrenheit.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
