Animal Behavior Assistant
This behavior team member is primarily responsible for the following:
· Perform daily canine and feline observations.
· Perform modification/training and enrichment plans for canines and felines.
· Daily data entry into PetPoint system.
· Ability to speak to the public about a wide variety of animal behaviors, training, positive reinforcement, and enrichment.
· Perform meet and greets with potential adopters and their owned pets.
· Perform behavior consultations with potential adopters, foster parents, and with visitors taking dogs out for Doggie Entourage.
· Assist with any medical issues, as needed.
· Assess the quality of life and animal welfare and potentially make euthanasia decisions.
· Performing behavior consultations with owners surrendering animals.
· Cleaning, as needed.
Advanced animal handling and observation skills are preferred for all domestic companion animals. Working toward or already possessing an animal behavior degree and/or training certification (e.g., CCPDT, IAABC) is preferred. The ideal candidate will have two years of animal handling experience (multiple species preferred) and at least one year of animal training experience.
This people-friendly team member must have exemplary communication skills, be able to work in a fast-paced environment, be adaptable to change, and have excellent computer skills. They will have top-notch critical thinking, problem-solving, and applied behavior analysis skills as well.
