Private Equity Senior Controller Position 📍 San Diego, CA | On-Site | Confidential Consultant-to-Hire (6–12 Months) → Reports Directly to the CFOCompensation is wide open and can go quite high depending on experience - Annualized salaries in the 200-300k range will be considered. A growing, well-capitalized private equity firm is hiring a Private Equity Controller to own the accounting and financial reporting backbone of the firm. This is a true, hands-on controller seat reporting directly to the CFO — not layered under a VP or Director.The engagement is structured as a 6–12 month consulting period, with a clear path to a permanent, senior seat inside the finance organization as the firm continues to scale.What you'll own:Fund accounting & reporting — quarterly/annual fund closes, financial statements, capital call & distribution processing, partner/LP allocationsManagement fee and carried interest / waterfall calculations per governing fund documentsOversight of third-party fund administrator deliverables and outsourced accounting relationshipsFund audit coordination — timelines, documentation, auditor responses across multiple vehiclesManagement company month-end close, internal controls, and expense allocationsCash forecasting, capital call/distribution notice prep, and treasury supportDirect partnership with the CFO on process improvement and finance infrastructure projectsWhat we're looking for:8+ years of progressive fund accounting / controllership experience in private equity, private credit, real assets, or other alternative investmentsBackground as a Fund Controller / Senior Fund Accountant at a fund administrator, sponsor, or asset manager, OR a Senior Manager in a Big 4 Investment Management practiceStrong grasp of PE fund structures, capital call/distribution mechanics, waterfall/carry calculations, and LP reportingSolid GAAP foundation for investment entities; CPA preferredComfortable operating hands-on in a lean, fast-moving environment with direct executive exposureAble to work on-site in San DiegoWhy this one's worth a conversation:Direct CFO access and mentorship from day oneA "get to know each other first" structure rather than a cold full-time leapReal path to a permanent, senior seat as the firm builds out its finance functionLean, ambitious team with strong backing and real momentum
