Senior Estimator – Civil / Site DevelopmentPosition OverviewThe Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the preparation of detailed cost estimates and competitive bids for civil and site development projects, including grading, earthwork, and utility infrastructure. The role supports preconstruction activities, project planning, and business development efforts through accurate pricing and strategic cost analysis.CompensationSalary Range: $120,000 – $170,000 (commensurate with experience)Company ProfileEstablished site development contractor with over 30 years of experience in the Southeast construction market Provides services across commercial, industrial, and large-scale residential sectors Core capabilities include grading, excavation, earthwork, and installation of storm, sewer, and water systemsOperates across all phases of construction, from preconstruction through project closeout Emphasizes safety, quality, and efficient project delivery using modern technology and equipmentProject ScopeIndustrial and logistics developments, including large-scale warehouse facilitiesCommercial and retail construction projectsMaster-planned and large-scale residential developmentsHigh-volume earthwork projects and full-site infrastructure installation Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for site development projectsAnalyze drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation to determine scope and quantitiesDevelop budgets, bids, and proposals for client submissionPerform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, and site infrastructureEvaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes and incorporate into final estimatesConduct site assessments to identify cost impacts and logistical considerationsApply value engineering techniques to optimize cost efficiencyMaintain cost databases, production rates, and historical pricing dataIdentify risks and incorporate contingencies into estimatesCollaborate with project management, engineering, and field teams to ensure alignmentSupport bid reviews, presentations, and contract negotiationsFacilitate project handoff to operations teams with complete estimate documentationQualificationsDemonstrated experience in construction estimating, preferably within site development or heavy civilStrong understanding of grading, earthwork, and underground utility constructionProven ability to estimate complex commercial, industrial, or residential projectsProficiency in estimating software and toolsAbility to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and site dataStrong knowledge of construction means and methodsPreferred QualificationsDegree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related fieldExperience with preconstruction services including budgeting and schedulingFamiliarity with value engineering and cost optimization practicesKnowledge of subcontractor and supplier marketsCore CompetenciesAdvanced analytical and numerical skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyStrong communication and coordination skillsAbility to manage multiple estimates simultaneouslyCommercial awareness and cost control mindsetSummaryThe Senior Estimator plays a critical role in cost planning, bid development, and project success through the delivery of accurate, competitive estimates and effective collaboration across project stakeholders.
