Position Overview
GTI Energy is seeking a Fabrication Supervisor – Welding to lead structural welding and metal fabrication operations in a high-mix manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for supervising welders and fabricators, managing daily production execution, enforcing welding procedures, and ensuring fabricated components meet drawing requirements, welding codes, and quality standards.
This is a hands-on leadership role focused on welding supervision, fabrication management, shop-floor execution, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise daily welding and metal fabrication operations in a production environment
Lead teams of welders and fabricators performing structural welding and metal assembly
Enforce welding procedures, WPS compliance, and fabrication standards
Ensure weld quality meets AWS D1.1, ASME, and internal fabrication requirements
Review blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings with production teams
Serve as the primary quality checkpoint for weld integrity and structural compliance
Troubleshoot weld defects, fit-up issues, distortion, and fabrication nonconformances
Coordinate material flow including steel, welding wire, gases, and consumables
Oversee welding equipment setup, maintenance, and calibration
Enforce fabrication shop safety, PPE usage, and safe welding practices
Support welder training, certification, and skill development
Drive productivity, efficiency, and scrap reduction initiatives
Required Qualifications
3–7 years of experience supervising welding and fabrication operations
Strong hands-on experience with MIG, TIG, and FCAW welding processes
Proven experience managing welders in a manufacturing or fabrication shop
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings
Strong working knowledge of AWS and ASME welding codes
Experience troubleshooting welding defects and fabrication issues
Strong leadership, communication, and shop-floor problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
AWS or ASME welding certifications
Experience in structural steel, heavy fabrication, or industrial manufacturing
Welding apprenticeship or trade school background
