Role: Network Engineer -OTN DevicesAshburn, VA, Phoenix, AZ or SF/Sunnyvale, CA-Hybrid12+monthsJob Description:Top 3 Responsibilities:Network Operations & Maintenance: Monitor, troubleshoot, and provision multi-vendor OTN/DWDM equipment to maintain performance and reliability across USA metro sites, datacenters, and cloud interconnects.Incident Response & Vendor Coordination: Participate in an on-call rotation to resolve network incidents, interfacing with remote hands, carriers, and hardware vendors in lights-out facilities.Network Scaling & Integration: Collaborate with global engineering teams on optical network design, capacity planning, and the evaluation and integration of new optical technologies.Required Skills:3+ years of hands-on experience with major OTN devices, such as Infinera/Nokia, Ciena, or ADVA/AdtranKnowledge of optical transport, system design, device delivery, and operations, including troubleshooting and incident managementExperience participating in on-call schedules as an escalation point for service-related issuesExperience working in a lights-out environment or interfacing with remote hands, vendors, and a globally distributed team.Desired Skills:Expertise in provisioning of network device configurations for major OTN vendors and hardware.Solid experience in TCP, IPv4/6, and dynamic routing protocols such as BGP and IS-IS.Experience supporting large-scale green or brownfield architecture, designs, and deployments for global or national enterprise or Service Providers in backbone or data center network fabrics.Proven ability to lead operational excellence through best-practice change management, outage mitigation and blameless post-mortem processes.You have great interpersonal skills, deep technical ability, and a portfolio of successful execution. You are open-minded to discuss various technical approaches and able to drive consensus across various stakeholders at Uber.A relentless desire to build each network better than the last. Treat networking, operational efficiency, and automation as sciences with room for artful breakthroughs.Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages such as Go or Python.Familiarity with Linux-based environments (e.g. bash/zsh)
