We're looking for an Automation & Systems Engineer with 2+ years of experience in a similar role to own and evolve the systems behind our operation, and to mentor our junior automation engineer as they grow. You'll inherit a real, working stack: a large Knack application, a Make.com automation estate, custom TypeScript services, and an in-flight migration to a modern Next.js + Postgres platform.What You'll DoYou'll work directly with leadership and operational teams to identify inefficiencies, build systems that eliminate manual work, and guide the migration of our core operations platform. Responsibilities include:• Own and extend our Knack application (46 objects, 360+ scenes) and its business rules• Build and maintain Make.com scenarios and webhook-driven automations• Design and maintain API integrations (ARIVE LOS middleware, appraisal ordering, internal services)• Develop and maintain TypeScript/Node services and Next.js applications• Contribute to the Knack → Next.js + PostgreSQL portal migration (data sync, schema design, cutover)• Write and maintain data scripts for bulk operations and reconciliation against production systems• Support reporting, dashboards, and operational visibility initiatives• Document business processes, system workflows, and integration contracts• Troubleshoot automation failures and workflow issues in production• Mentor and pair with our junior automation engineer: code review, architecture guidance, and growth• Help implement AI-driven workflows and agentic development toolingWhat We're Looking ForRequired• 2+ years in an automation, systems, or integration engineering role• TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js in production• REST API integration experience (auth, rate limits, webhooks, error handling)• Low-code/no-code platforms (Knack, Airtable, or similar database apps)• Workflow automation platforms (Make.com, Zapier, or similar)• SQL and relational data modeling (PostgreSQL preferred)• Process mapping and workflow design• Comfort mentoring junior engineersBonus Points For• Mortgage industry experience-Experience with loan origination systems (ARIVE especially)• Next.js/React experience• Experience migrating a business off a no-code platform onto custom software• AI automation and agentic coding-tool experience (Claude Code or similar)• Headless CMS experience (Payload or similar)What Success Looks LikeWithin your first 90 days:• Take ownership of the Knack app and Make.com automation estate• Ship improvements to the ARIVE middleware and appraisal integrations• Advance the portal migration with reliable Knack Postgres sync• Establish a mentorship rhythm with the junior engineer (reviews, pairing, growth plan)• Become a trusted resource for operational improvement initiativesCompensation & Benefits• $80,000–$90,000 annual salary• Fully remote within the United States• Health benefits• Paid time off• Direct exposure to executive leadership• Ownership of core systems with room to grow the function• Work on projects that directly impact company growthWhy Willow?At Willow, support isn't just a buzzword; it's one of our core pillars.
