Lead Electrical Testing Technician

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Testing Specialist with strong apparatus testing expertise to support substation and data center projects throughout Texas. This role is responsible for performing acceptance, maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting tests on medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment while ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in energized environments, strong technical knowledge of electrical apparatus testing, and the ability to work independently on complex utility, industrial, and mission-critical infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities Perform testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical apparatus in substations and data centers Conduct acceptance and maintenance testing on: Power transformers Circuit breakers Protective relays Switchgear CTs/PTs Cables and bus systems Battery systems and grounding systems Execute insulation resistance, turns ratio, contact resistance, power factor, Doble, primary/secondary injection, and relay functional testing Interpret electrical schematics, one-lines, wiring diagrams, and protection drawings Support startup and commissioning activities for greenfield and brownfield electrical infrastructure projects Identify equipment deficiencies and provide technical recommendations for corrective actions Prepare detailed field service reports and testing documentation Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NETA, IEEE, and client-specific safety requirements Coordinate with project managers, commissioning teams, engineers, and client representatives Travel to project sites throughout Texas as needed Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or field service work Strong background in apparatus testing within substations, utilities, industrial facilities, or data centers Experience with medium- and high-voltage electrical systems Familiarity with NETA testing standards and industry best practices Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and protection schematics Working knowledge of testing equipment such as Doble, Omicron, Megger, Vanguard, or similar Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required Preferred Qualifications NETA certification (Level II, III, or IV) NICET or equivalent electrical testing certifications Data center commissioning experience Utility or EPC project experience OSHA 10/30 or NFPA 70E training Experience working in energized substations What We Offer Competitive hourly compensation: $35–$75/hour Overtime opportunities Per diem and travel accommodations (project dependent) Career growth within the power delivery and mission-critical infrastructure sectors Opportunity to work on large-scale utility and hyperscale data center projects throughout Texas Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is safety-focused, technically strong, and experienced in fast-paced field environments.
