Job Description:Brookline Social Studies teachers guide students to make personal connections to history and geography and appreciate historical contributions of individuals and groups.Duties include but are not limited to:Demonstrating appropriate long and short term preparation for classroom instructionHolding high expectations for all students and serving as a facilitator of student learningOrganizing and using a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settingsAssessing student progress, providing students and parents with specific feedback, and using the results to adjust instruction as neededProviding opportunities for academic support and challengeTaking responsibility for teaching the district learning expectations as outlined in the curriculum documentsDemonstrating an understanding of how knowledge in the subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiencesKeeping abreast of current developments in the field and continue to deepen understanding of the discipline(s)Establishing and maintaining a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of communityRequirements Qualifications:Knowledge about Middle School philosophy and the developmental needs of adolescentsAbility to present the curriculum using an inquiry approachAn academic background in social studiesAbility to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methodsA strong foundation in student-centered pedagogyBachelor's DegreeMajor or minor in content areaDESE certification, Political Science/Political Philosophy, 5-8 or Social Studies, 5-8SEI endorsementPreferred Qualifications:* Master's Degree* Experience with World Geography and Ancient HistoryThe Public Schools of Brookline is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their teaching or practice to the diversity and excellence of the PSB community.The Public Schools of Brookline is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
