Job Title: Fiber Optic Engineer in New York City (Work Location) Job Overview: As a Fiber Optic Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and maintaining fiber optic networks. This includes working with optical fibers, cables, connectors, and related equipment to ensure reliable data transmission for various telecommunications and networking applications. Key Responsibilities: Network Design: Design and plan fiber optic networks based on project requirements. Conduct site surveys to assess the feasibility of fiber optic installations. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand network requirements and constraints. Installation and Implementation: Install and configure fiber optic cables, connectors, and related equipment. Terminate and splice fiber optic cables with precision. Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety protocols during installations. Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct thorough testing of fiber optic systems to ensure optimal performance. Identify and troubleshoot issues related to signal loss, attenuation, and connectivity. Use specialized tools and equipment for testing and diagnosis. Maintenance and Upgrades: Perform routine maintenance on fiber optic networks to prevent downtime. Upgrade and expand existing fiber optic infrastructure to meet growing demands. Keep abreast of industry advancements and recommend technology upgrades. Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of network designs, installations, and configurations. Create as-built documentation for completed projects. Generate reports on network performance and maintenance activities. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, IT professionals, and project managers. Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to source quality fiber optic components. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field. Proven experience in designing and implementing fiber optic networks. In-depth knowledge of fiber optic components, standards, and installation techniques. Familiarity with testing equipment such as optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Industry certifications (e.g., FOA, CFOT) are a plus. Working Conditions: The role may require working in various environments, including outdoor installations and confined spaces. May involve travel to different project sites.
