🚨 Director of Mechanical Services 🚨A well established and rapidly growing facility services organization is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Mechanical Services to lead its mechanical and HVAC engineering services. This senior leadership role will oversee engineering excellence, project execution, and operational performance across a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial facilities. This position offers the opportunity to fully own and elevate mechanical engineering operations within a growing organization that values technical expertise, accountability, and long-term client partnerships.This is a HYBRID (3 days/week) position, in Woodbridge, VA.🔍 About the RoleThe Director of Mechanical Services will serve as the senior technical and operational leader for the mechanical division, overseeing HVAC engineering, design/build projects, and technical services. This role blends engineering leadership with operational, financial, and client-facing responsibilities and will play a critical role in shaping service delivery, profitability, and future growth. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in commercial HVAC and mechanical systems, strong business acumen, and a collaborative leadership style suited for a fast-paced, service-driven environment.🛠️ Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Project LeadershipLead all mechanical engineering, design, and construction activities for commercial HVAC and mechanical projects.Oversee projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget adherence.Prepare and review scopes of work, feasibility studies, system assessments, cost analyses, and technical reports.Conduct peer reviews, condition assessments, and order-of-magnitude cost estimates.Client & Business DevelopmentDevelop and maintain strong client relationships; act as a senior technical advisor and escalation point.Support business development efforts, including proposal development, fee estimates, and client presentations.Participate in contract negotiations and high-value client discussions.Financial & Contract OversightOwn division-level P&L responsibility, including budgeting, forecasting, margin management, and cost controls.Review and manage contracts to ensure scope clarity, risk mitigation, and financial alignment.Oversee billing, change orders, collections, and financial reporting in partnership with accounting and operations.Operational ExcellenceDrive operational efficiency through process improvements, performance metrics, and resource optimization.Monitor KPIs related to project performance, labor productivity, and profitability.Implement initiatives to reduce labor and material costs while maintaining safety, quality, and compliance.Team Leadership & DevelopmentLead, mentor, and develop project managers, engineers, and field leadership.Establish staffing plans, training programs, and succession strategies.Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture across engineering, operations, and finance teams.✅ What We’re Looking ForBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Management, or a related field10+ years of experience in commercial mechanical/HVAC services or contracting, with a strong understanding of day‑to‑day field operations5+ years in a senior leadership role, overseeing mechanical teams, service delivery, and operationsHands‑on field experience as a service technician or equivalent early career exposureDeep technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, plumbing, and mechanical design/buildProven experience with P&L ownership, contract management, and financial performanceAbility to balance strategic leadership with hands‑on operational executionStrong client facing, communication, and decision making skillsSales or business development experience is a plusHVAC and safety certifications (EPA 608, NATE, HVAC Excellence, OSHA), preferredWillingness to travel up to 20%Base Salary Range: $165,000 - $180,000; based on experience.
