Position Title: Shutdown Construction ManagerLocation: Newport News, VAPer diem provided (more info below)Duration: 2.5 month contract (Project-Based)June 6, 2026 – August 10, 2026~500 total hours over ~2 months à breakdown belowProject OverviewThis role supports a major ammonia-based industrial freezer modification within a GMP-regulated food manufacturing facility. The project includes enabling work, a highly intensive shutdown window, and post-enabling/startup activities.The Construction Manager will serve as the single point of coordination for safety, quality, schedule, and documentation, working alongside specialty trade contractors. This is not a traditional GC role — the CM acts as the owner's on-site coordinator and quality lead.Key ResponsibilitiesProject & Construction CoordinationAct as the day-to-day Construction Manager on site, coordinating multiple specialty contractors performing the work.Track and manage daily activities, schedule adherence, and resource loading.Support enabling work, shutdown execution, and post-shutdown/start-up activities.Maintain situational awareness with active manufacturing lines on both sides of the work area during shutdown.Quality Control & DocumentationServe as the single point of quality control for the project.Verify material receipts to confirm they are per specification.Document installation activities and confirm compliance with drawings and project requirements.Sign off on:Pressure testsConformity / quality inspection reportsMaintain detailed records of:Quality inspectionsAs-built conditionsAny deviations from construction drawingsEnsure GMP documentation expectations are met.Safety & ComplianceOversee site safety compliance during high-risk shutdown activities.Coordinate safe access and work sequencing in live manufacturing adjacent areas.Interface with site EHS as needed to ensure adherence to safety and GMP requirements.Reporting & SystemsSubmit daily construction reports in Procore, including progress, manpower, safety, and quality observations.Maintain accurate project logs and documentation for stakeholder visibility.Permitting & InspectionsCoordinate directly with Newport News permitting officials to support required permits and inspections.Facilitate inspection readiness and on-site walkthroughs as needed.Work Schedule & Project IntensityProject Phases & HoursEnabling Work:Start: June 6 – July 1~60 hours/week (~240 hours total)Shutdown Window (Peak Intensity):Between July 2 – July 19 (key shutdown period)~13 hours/day, up to 7 days/weekApprox. 91 hours/week for ~2 intense weeksPost-Enabling / Startup Support:~50 hours/week (~150 hours total)Estimated Total: ~481–500 hours over ~2 monthsLight work during weekdays outside shutdownHeavy work during select weekends leading up to and during shutdownRequired Experience & SkillsetMust-Have Qualifications10+ years of construction or industrial project experienceStrong background in:ConcreteIndustrial equipment installationElectrical systems and controls (knowledgeable, not performing hands-on work)Ability to coordinate work safely around live operationsStrong documentation, inspection, and quality mindsetComfortable acting as the central coordinator across contractors, engineers, and owner stakeholdersPreferred / Nice-to-HaveOSHA 30 certificationExperience working within active manufacturing environmentsPrior experience leading or coordinating projects in:GMP-regulated facilitiesFood, pharmaceutical, or industrial manufacturing environmentsExperience managing shutdowns or turnaroundsTravel, Per Diem & Expenses InfoPer diem: $160/day (up to $190/day depending on lodging)Covers lodging and meals — contractor will not come out of pocketAdditional paid days provided for travel to and from siteAll necessary travel and project expenses covered
