IP Patent Assistant

The IP Patent Assistant will assist patent attorneys and patent agents with high volume patent matters end-to-end from preparation to maintenance. This will include various domestic and international filings, correspondence with agents, clients, and inventors, and related tasks. Our ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of patent experience with a strong understanding of the United States patent process.Where You'll WorkThe IP Patent Assistant role is an hourly non-exempt position and will work full-time at our Toledo, Ohio office. There is a possibility of hybrid for an experienced candidate.What You'll DoDraft, proofread, send, file and manage correspondence internally and externally, as well as memos, contracts, forms, and other relevant documentsPrepare and file Information Disclosure Statements, U.S. patent applications and various types of responses to Office ActionsCorrespond and provide updates to foreign associate network for non-U.S. patent mattersProvide status updates to clients both domestically and abroadCoordinate with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office staff to resolve issues related to patentsAssist attorneys on non-patent and trademark intellectual property mattersPerform post-allowance diligence, pay patent issue fees and close filesSchedule and manage all appointments and contact lists as necessaryWork collaboratively with firmwide intellectual property teamReview and revise billing as appropriateWhat We’re Looking ForMinimum of bachelor’s degree or higher required but will consider extensive IP Patent experience in lieu of degree.At least 2+ years of patent experience requiredDemonstrates a thorough understanding of United States patent processesExperience filling PCT patent applicationsStrong understanding of patent and trademark terminologyAdvanced technical skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointProject and case management skills, including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines with a high attention to detailSuperior research, organizational and verbal and written communication skillsWho We AreWe’re not just another law firm - we’re something different.
