Preference is DC area or Raleigh-Durham with option for remote work for correct candidate. The Back End Developer will design, develop, and maintain server-side applications and systems, ensuring seamless communication between the server and front-end interfaces. Responsibilities include building efficient and scalable back-end functionalities, troubleshooting and debugging issues, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, and adhering to software development best practices. The role also involves applying object-oriented programming principles to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business needs.What You'll DoArchitect the SaaS Security Boundary: Design the PostgreSQL database schema, write complex SQL migrations, and implement robust Row-Level Security (RLS) policies and SECURITY DEFINER functions.Build AWS Infrastructure: Own the deep, programmatic integration with AWS. You will use the AWS SDK to interact with services like IAM, STS, CloudFormation, AWS Organizations, License Manager, and the Marketplace Catalog API.Develop the Backend: Design, build, and maintain the entire backend on the Supabase platform, writing all core business logic in Supabase Edge Functions (Deno/TypeScript).Manage Event Systems: Maintain and enhance the real-time PMP event capture system utilizing AWS EventBridge, Lambda, and DynamoDB.Own API Integrations: Build and maintain all third-party API integrations, including Stripe for billing and Jira/ServiceNow for approval workflows (including managing webhook handling and OAuth flows).Enforce Security Standards: Implement and manage security best practices across the platform, manage secrets in Supabase Vault, and ensure all backend processes are secure and properly audited.Drive Scalability & Performance: Ensure the backend is highly scalable, reliable, and performant by continually optimizing database queries and serverless function execution.Core Requirements5+ years of experience in backend or cloud engineering with a focus on building complex, API-driven platforms.Expert-level knowledge of Supabase and PostgreSQL, including advanced SQL, PL/pgSQL functions, and a deep understanding of Row-Level Security (RLS).Expert-level knowledge of AWS, specifically with programmatic interaction using the AWS SDK. You must have deep experience with IAM, STS (cross-account role assumption), and CloudFormation.Serverless expertise, with proven experience building applications using Supabase Edge Functions (Deno/TypeScript) or similar platforms like AWS Lambda.Integration experience, demonstrating the ability to integrate multiple third-party REST APIs, handle complex authentication (OAuth 2.0, API keys), and process webhooks reliably.Security-first mindset, with a profound understanding of cloud security principles, especially within a multi-tenant SaaS context.Bonus PointsAdvanced AWS Experience: Direct, hands-on experience with the AWS Marketplace Catalog API, AWS License Manager, or AWS Organizations.AI Tooling Advocate: Demonstrable enthusiasm for learning and integrating AI tools into your daily engineering workflow to improve productivity and backend performance.B2B Commerce: Familiarity with cXML or other B2B e-commerce protocols.QualificationsProficiency in Back-End Web Development and Software DevelopmentSkill in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Programming methodologiesFamiliarity with Front-End Development concepts to ensure effective back-end and front-end integrationStrong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and debuggingKnowledge of APIs and building scalable architecture is a plusBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experienceStrong collaboration and communication skills for working within cross-functional teamsSalaryBase salary: $115,000 – $150,000, commensurate with experienceEquity grant with 4-year vesting and 1-year cliffHealth and 401kThis is a ground-floor opportunity.
