Senior Android Developer – Android Device Platform *Location:* Dallas, TX *Schedule:* 5 Days Onsite *Job Type:* Full-Time About the Role We are looking for a *Senior Android Developer* to join a team building the Android device platform that powers *store technology*. This is *not a typical mobile app development role*. You will work directly with Android-based handheld devices and tablets used in store operations, helping build the software, SDKs, and platform components that enable multiple applications to run reliably on these devices. You will work across *Android software, device hardware, performance optimization, and platform integration*—making this a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving deeper technical problems beyond building application screens and features. What You'll Do * Develop and maintain native Android solutions using *Kotlin and Java*. * Build reusable *Android SDKs, libraries, and platform components* consumed by other application teams. * Work with *physical Android devices*, including handhelds and tablets, and support multiple device types and Android OS versions. * Integrate Android software with *device hardware and device-level APIs*. * Work with Android *IPC, services, AIDL/Binder, and inter-application communication*. * Modernize and migrate legacy Java Android code to *Kotlin and modern Android technologies*. * Design scalable Android architecture using patterns such as *MVVM, Clean Architecture, dependency injection, and modular design*. * Troubleshoot and optimize applications for *performance, memory, CPU usage, battery life, startup time, and reliability*. * Integrate Android applications with REST APIs and backend services, including support for offline/limited connectivity. * Support testing, CI/CD, releases, production troubleshooting, and device performance testing. * Collaborate with product, backend, QA, security, infrastructure, and other engineering teams. What We're Looking For * *5+ years of hands-on native Android development*. * Strong *Kotlin* experience with solid Java experience. * Strong knowledge of the *Android SDK and Android framework*. * Experience working with *physical Android devices*, specialized devices, handhelds, tablets, scanners, POS systems, or similar enterprise hardware. * Experience with *Android SDK/library/platform development* is highly desirable. * Experience supporting multiple Android versions and device form factors. * Strong understanding of Android performance optimization and troubleshooting. * Experience with Android architecture, REST APIs, testing, and production support. * Experience migrating or modernizing *legacy Java Android code* is a plus. Nice to Have * Zebra, Honeywell, Datalogic, or other enterprise handheld device experience * Android IPC / AIDL / Binder * Device management / enterprise mobility * Retail or store technology experience * AWS * MongoDB * React Native or hybrid mobile development * Jetpack Compose * GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, or other AI coding tools Why This Role?
