a { text-decoration: none; color: #464feb;}tr th, tr td { border: 1px solid #e6e6e6;}tr th { background-color: #f5f5f5;}Staff Software Engineer (Embedded Systems) - FreelanceLocation: Bloomfield, CT (Hybrid: 3 days onsite) Schedule: 40 hours/weekDuration: Through end of year, with potential extension or conversion to full-timeOur client, a global elevator manufacturer, is seeking a freelance Staff Software Engineer to take a technical leadership role on embedded software for commercial elevator products.What You'll Work OnLead development of embedded software for commercial elevator systems, including controllers, field and factory tools, simulation, automation, and testingOwn and guide global software architecture decisions and establish engineering best practicesMentor and support engineers across multiple teams and locationsTranslate business and system requirements into scalable, secure technical solutionsPartner with field teams to improve UI/UX, first-time fix rates, and troubleshooting efficiencyIntegrate cybersecurity standards and modern delivery practices such as CI/CD and automated testingSupport project planning and lead complex troubleshooting across both new and legacy systemsManage multiple priorities while driving high-impact technical outcomesWhat You BringBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 12+ years of experience (or Master's degree with 10+ years)Deep expertise across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) with experience leading multiple projectsStrong embedded C/C++ development skills; VB.NET or C# experience for UI/UX and simulator toolsHands-on experience with embedded interfaces and protocols such as CAN, RS232/422/485, SPI, I2C, timers, EEPROM, and flash driversExperience with RTOS, multi-threaded systems, kernel/driver development, BSPs, and bootloadersAdvanced debugging experience using tools like JTAG/BDM, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and CANalyzerProficiency with source control and development tools (Git, Subversion, Atlassian) and methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Event-Driven)Experience with rapid prototyping, continuous integration, and system-level debuggingSelf-directed, results-driven, and comfortable collaborating with global teamsIn this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data.
