Fleet Shop Manager

Primary PurposeAssist and support the Assistant Director of Fleet Services in managing and overseeing the district's fleet maintenance department. Manage and lead a team of transportation mechanics and parts specialists at your assigned facility in the service, maintenance, repair, and support of transportation equipment to allow the fleet to operate at optimum performance.QualificationsEducation/Certification/LicensureHigh School Diploma or GED requiredValid commercial Texas Driver's license (Class B) or ability to obtain within six months of hire.Must pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and physical health requirements.Special Knowledge/SkillsExcellent interpersonal skillsWell-developed written and verbal skillsComputer literacy, preferably in word processing and spreadsheetsKnowledge of legal issues of interviewing, hiring, performance evaluation, discipline, and termination preferredStrong organizational skillsSkill in reading and interpreting technical information.Skill in writing specifications and interpreting bidsMust be able to determine cost estimates on shop repair of buses.Must be able to maintain funding accountability.ExperienceFive (5) years of experience as a shop foreman, parts manager, or similar production/supply chain position.Experience in planning and scheduling maintenance and repair operations. (preferred)Experience supervising 10 or more team members. (preferred)Experience with Fleet Management Software. (preferred)Major Responsibilities and DutiesPlan and schedule all repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance to ensure the fleet follows departmental standards.Monitor the schedule of out-of-service vehicles to ensure the department is provided with sufficient vehicles to maintain district customer service standards.Ensure work orders are complete and accurate via auditing fleet management software and other tracking tools daily.Coordinate staff schedules with the Assistant Director of Fleet Services and any overtime hours required inManage On-Call schedule and staffing to ensure after-hours emergencies are handled promptly andSecure the safety of all employees by enforcing proper safety and housekeeping practices, posting applicable warning signs, and reviewing the safety handbook as appropriate.Evaluate the performance of all Mechanics, Technicians, and Specialists regularly according to district policy and review findings with the Assistant Director of Fleet Services and the individual employee.Administer appropriate employee progressive discipline as necessary following district documentationEnsure that regularly scheduled safety meetings for shop personnel are conducted andEnsure that formal in-house and outside training is regularly provided and documented for all transportation fleet personnel, including appropriate TASBT certifications, hazardous materials handling and procedures, and a proper understanding of safety data sheets.Provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports showing productivity, PM compliance, and additional KPIs to the Assistant Director of Fleet services to evaluate Fleet repairs.Document and maintain all personnel and vehicular records as required by State and Federal laws and regulations.
