A reasonable estimate of the current range is:Grade: Professional 305Pay Range: $54,800.00 - $82,200.00Job DescriptionThe Editor II has a passion for precision, quickly and accurately editing a high volume of copy content across various media. This editor is responsible for ensuring that all projects are free of errors, maintain the WGU voice, uphold the WGU brand, and adhere to legal and editorial standards. Duties of the role include proofreading, copyediting, and substantive editing throughout the marketing asset development process. This team member collaborates with copywriters, designers, editorial managers, and others throughout the Marketing department to deliver high-quality assets for every project, providing the best experience for our students and supporting WGU’s mission to change lives for the better by creating pathways to opportunity.Essential Functions And ResponsibilitiesProofreads, copyedits, and substantively edits copy for projects across all media channels, including digital, social media, email, SEO, branded content, websites, print ads, mobile, etc., and ensures that all work is completed on timeEdits materials for clarity, accuracy, readability, brand consistency, style, etc.Maintains deep knowledge of WGU’s schools, programs, and offerings to ensure accuracyPartners with copywriters to develop copy that achieves project objectivesCollaborates with designers to ensure all copy is accurately represented, laid out, and proofread prior to project releaseEnsures that all language is accurate and in compliance with legal and academic standardsMaintains consistent implementation of the brand and tone of voiceUnderstands WGU’s marketing channels and the many audiences our assets reachParticipates in brainstorming sessions and provides copy insights and concepts as well as suggestions for improving all marketing contentAttends editing team meetings and other meetings as an active participant, providing feedback on matters related to copy, voice and tone, style, and editingUpdates the Marketing Editorial Style Guide and other team resources as directedAssists executives and team members with occasional presentation proofreading and general editorial support across the departmentKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesExceptional skills in proofreading, copyediting, and substantive editingExcellent attention to detailSelf-motivated with the ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects and deadlinesAbility to concentrate on fine details for long periods of timeExcellent communicator and collaboratorAwareness of marketing communications and their best practices, as well as editing for such mediaAbility to work and thrive in a fast-paced team environmentStrong interpersonal skills (open, friendly, and supportive attitude)Committed to excellence in every aspect of their workTechnical skills in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)Capacity to adapt to WGU tools and resources (Workfront, Knak, etc.)Familiarity with common editorial style guides (Chicago, AP) and applying house stylesJob QualificationsBachelor’s degree, preferably in English, journalism, or another communications-related fieldAt least two years of prior editing experienceProficiency in MS Office SuiteFamiliarity with The Chicago Manual of Style and editing to in-house style guidesMust take and pass a WGU Marketing editing assessmentPreferred QualificationsFormal training in editing (e.g., editing minor, editing certificate, etc.)At least three years prior editing experienceFamiliarity with editing for higher education marketing or communicationsAdvanced skills in MS Office SuiteThis position requires occasional travel of up to 20%, including required attendance at designated company summits (typically one to two per year). Additional travel may include conferences, visits to company locations, and other business-related events as needed.
