Controller
CEHAS Plan Administrators, LLC - Finance - Fully Remote (U.S.) - Full-Time, W2, Exempt - $120,000-$150,000/year - Paid weekly. Reports to the VP of Finance.
Why this role matters
CEHAS administers self-funded employee benefits for employers across the country. That means our books are not ordinary books: we move client claims funding, allocate premium, track runout liability, and reconcile carrier and vendor billing - and every one of those numbers belongs to somebody's health plan. This is a hands-on Controller seat on a small finance team. You will own the close, own the general ledger, and own the funding cycle, and you will be close enough to the detail to catch the entry that doesn't belong. If you want a role where accounting is directly connected to the operation, this is that role.
What you'll own
- The general ledger: own daily transaction recording, account classification, and reconciliation. The GL is yours end to end.
- The monthly close: design it, run it, and shorten it. We want reconciliations completed on a predictable calendar and a close that doesn't slip.
- Financial statements: produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, with analytical review that explains the variance rather than just reporting it.
- Client funding and billing: oversee funding for client claims, vendor payments, and administrative fees; support client billing and premium allocation; track claims runout liability.
- Banking and cash: manage bank accounts, banking relationships, and reconciliations, and keep cash position visible to leadership.
- Controls and compliance: maintain documented accounting policies and internal controls, and keep our practices aligned with GAAP and with the regulatory environment we operate in, including HIPAA and ERISA considerations.
- The budget: support preparation of the annual budget, then track performance against it and drive the variance analysis.
- The systems: actively manage accounting in QuickBooks Online, use electronic transaction imports and integrated financial interfaces, and find the process that should be automated instead of repeated.
- Audit readiness: coordinate with auditors, tax professionals, and banking partners, and keep records in a state where an outside request doesn't become a fire drill.
Who we're looking for
- You know the industry: healthcare, TPA, benefits administration, or insurance services - you understand how claims flow, how clients are billed, and how funding cycles work.
- You're hands-on: small team, no layers. You prepare the entry as readily as you review it.
- You're genuinely careful: you catch the small stuff and follow through without being chased. In benefits, an error in the funding math is somebody's claim.
- You build, not just maintain: you have taken a messy close or an undocumented process and left it better than you found it.
- You communicate clearly: you can explain a variance to someone who doesn't read financial statements for a living.
- You work independently: we are fully remote and we trust you.
