Associate, Equity Investment Risk

The Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA) group provides independent oversight of BlackRock’s fiduciary and enterprise risks. Equity Risk Management You will partner with the Active Equity portfolio management teams to monitor investment risk of portfolios. We are looking for a candidate with strong quantitative and communication skills to help manage risk for the Systematic Active Equity platform in San Francisco. Partnering with senior risk managers to help ensure that the risks are fully understood by Portfolio Management and are consistent with our clients’ objectives and risk constraints. Understanding the investment risks by thoroughly analysing all investments. Regularly monitoring risks in the portfolios and presenting pertinent analyses on markets, portfolio risk, and performance drivers to portfolio management teams. Understanding how macroeconomic and microeconomic factors drive the investment decision‑making process. Assisting portfolio managers with portfolio risk and scenario analysis. Helping to define the analytical and risk management development needs for adequately monitoring risks. Knowledge / Experience Required 3+ years of industry experience in risk management, quantitative research, or portfolio management. Ability to explain complex ideas in simple but impactful terms and proven ability to use effective communication to influence outcomes. Passion for applying quantitative techniques to real‑world problems, including analysing portfolio risk‑taking and understanding financial markets. Strong knowledge of equity markets, equity risk models, portfolio construction, portfolio risk analysis techniques. Experience with scenario analysis, stress‑testing, equity risk factor models, performance attribution, and other risk‑related metrics and tools. Broad markets and analytics knowledge encompassing equities and other asset classes. Skills / Qualifications Required Degree in mathematics, quantitative finance, computer science, economics, statistics, engineering, or another quantitative discipline. Demonstrated coding experience applying quantitative methods to large data sets (Python or R, SQL). Passion for applying quantitative techniques to real‑world problems and being a student of the financial markets. Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail. Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), FRM, or PRMIA designation is a plus. Compensation For San Francisco, CA only the salary range for this position is USD$116,000.00 – USD$155,000.00.
