Contract/Consulting Work Registration - Part Time Controller - On Site

The Veterans Launch mission is to connect military service with actual contract consulting work opportunities. From short term temporary positions to longer term project based opportunities, 100% of the work through Veterans Launch is for U.S. military veterans.This specific assignment will be a part time, 24 hour a week, open ended opportunity with one of our clients who has previously hired US Veterans through Veterans Launch.The Controller is responsible for the financial management, accounting operations, and fiscal integrity of the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association. This role performs all accounting functions, ensures compliance with nonprofit and governmental regulations, and supports strategic decision-making through accurate financial reporting and analysis.In addition to finance leadership, the Controller provides oversight of core Human Resources administrative functions, ensuring compliance with employment laws and supporting effective personnel management.Perform all accounting functions including bringing in QBO, manage accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger and cash managementPrepare monthly and annual financial statements for CEO and Board of DirectorsManage annual budgeting process in collaboration with each departmentMonitor and analyze financial performance, identifying trends and advising CEOEnsure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standardsCoordinate and manage annual independent audit and IRS Form 990 preparationOversee restricted fund trackingMaintain internal controls and safeguard organizational assetsManage cash flow forecastingWork directly with the CEO on projects and budgetsProvide operational support to CEOProvide financial analysis to support educational programs, vessel operations, and special eventsProvide financial reports to Board committees as neededHuman Resources AdministrationProcess payroll within Insperity and manage benefits administrationEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local employment lawsMaintain personnel records and HR documentationSupport recruitment processes, onboarding, and off-boarding proceduresAssist CEO with compensation planningUpdate and maintain employee handbook policies in coordination with RequirementsQualificationsEducation & Experience:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or museum settingsExperience with grant accounting and restricted funds managementWorking knowledge of HR compliance and payroll systemsSkills & Competencies:Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial regulationsExperience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks & Microsoft)High attention to detail and strong analytical skillsAbility to communicate financial information clearlyDiscretion in handling confidential financial and personnel informationStrong organizational and leadership abilitiesMust have prior U.S. military serviceBenefitsContract consulting roles are not eligible for benefits.
