Web Developer, Center for Family History & Genealogy The College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences seeks a skilled and motivated Web Developer to support the Center for Family History & Genealogy (CFHG) in its mission to provide quality online research and resources for public use at no cost. Our 15 distinct project websites annually attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from over 170 countries. As our Web Developer, you will have the opportunity to mentor student developers, build web applications for the CFHG, and collaborate with stakeholders. We are looking for someone who will exemplify the teachings of Christ in daily interactions, collaborate with the FHSS Web Manager and other members of the FHSS Computing Services team, and support the overall mission of the College . What you'll do in this position: Mentor student developers through exemplifying professionalism and the mission of both BYU and the Church and encouraging a culture of teamwork and excellent customer service Ensure that student developers properly document their code, activities, and responsibilities, and encourage retention by providing growth opportunities Build web applications for the Center for Family History and Genealogy, including designing and developing both customer-centric static and dynamic data-driven websites. We expect that about 75% of your time will be devoted to development. Use shift-left testing methodologies and assure optimum user experience. Consult with clients to identify desired solutions, then review and document customer requirements. Work with the product owner, CFHG Director, and the responsible professor(s) to create the database schema for each website. Work with the FHSS Web and Projects Teams to plan, prioritize, and execute work with transparency and accountability. Make all day-to-day website development decisions for CFHG web applications. What qualifies you for this role: Required A firm commitment to the mission of BYU Degree in a technology field (computer science, information systems, etc.) or equivalent development experience At least two years' experience of the following: website development and maintenance, customer service/working with clients, database experience, and database schema design and architecture Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and ensure that customer objectives are met with satisfaction Experience with programming languages including JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and SQL, as well as familiarity with project management such as Kanban, Scrum, etc. Ability to explain complicated technical concepts in widely understandable terms, with a willingness to help nontechnical people with these concepts in a respectful and honest way. Ability to quickly learn new and emerging technologies and adapt to the changing needs of CFHG and the College as a whole. Preferred 5 years of website development/maintenance and customer service/working with clients 2 years of design, UX, UI experience or training 1 year experience in web technologies such as Typescript, JavaScript, C#, Rust, etc. 1 year experience with Mendix or other low-code/no-code platform, such as Microsoft PowerApps and ServiceNow AppEngine Strong experience in complimentary web development technologies Interest in working in an educational environment What we offer in return: This position comes with fantastic benefits , including: 401k.
