Learn more at biostl.org and follow them on Twitter @BioSTL.Position Summary• BioSTL is seeking a hands-on, experienced Senior HR Generalist to manage and execute the full scope of day-to-day human resources operations. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality, compliant, and employee-centered HR services across the organization, including recruiting, payroll and benefits administration, employee relations, compliance, performance management, and HR systems.• This is a highly operational role ideal for an HR professional who enjoys owning processes end-to-end, partnering closely with leadership, and serving as a trusted resource for employees and managers. The position is primarily on-site, with a regular schedule of, at least, four days per week in the office to support employees and the organization effectively.Key ResponsibilitiesHR Operations & Employee Lifecycle• Manage all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding, orientation, job changes, and offboarding• Serve as the primary point of contact for employee HR inquiries, providing timely and accurate guidance• Maintain employee personnel files and HR records in accordance with legal and organizational requirements• Administer and continuously improve HR policies, procedures, and practicesRecruiting & Talent Acquisition• Manage the full-cycle recruiting process for all open positions, from workforce planning and job postings through offer creation and onboarding• Partner with hiring managers to define role requirements, develop job descriptions, and determine effective sourcing strategies• Post and manage job openings across appropriate platforms and networks• Screen resumes, conduct initial candidate interviews, coordinate interview logistics, and support hiring teams through selection• Prepare and extend offers, including compensation coordination, background checks (as applicable), and pre-employment requirements• Ensure a positive, professional candidate experience throughout the recruiting process• Maintain recruiting metrics and documentation; identify opportunities to improve efficiency, equity, and quality of hirePayroll Administration• Own the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing• Coordinate payroll inputs including new hires, terminations, pay changes, bonuses, and deductions• Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies• Serve as liaison with payroll vendors and internal finance partners• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour regulationsBenefits & Ancillary Programs• Administer all employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, and other ancillary offerings• Serve as subject-matter expert for benefits, assisting employees with enrollment, changes, and issue resolution• Lead annual open enrollment, including planning, communications, vendor coordination, and employee education• Manage relationships with benefits brokers and vendors• Ensure compliance with ACA, COBRA, ERISA, and other applicable regulationsCompliance & Risk Management• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations• Monitor and update HR practices to reflect regulatory changes• Support audits, reporting, and filings related to payroll, benefits, and HR compliance• Assist with workers’ compensation administration and claims managementPerformance Management & Employee Relations• Support and administer the performance management process, including goal setting, reviews, and documentation• Coach managers and employees on performance, conduct, and workplace issues• Assist with employee relations matters, including investigations, corrective action, and conflict resolution• Promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace cultureHR Systems & Reporting• Administer HRIS, payroll, benefits, and recruiting systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity• Generate routine and ad hoc HR, recruiting, and payroll reports as needed• Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve system utilizationStrategic & Organizational Support• Partner with leadership to align HR practices, recruiting efforts, and workforce planning with organizational goals• Contribute to HR initiatives such as process improvement, training, and organizational development• Participate in special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned with contracted supportQualificationsRequired• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field• Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive HR Generalist experience• Demonstrated hands-on experience with full-cycle recruiting, payroll processing, and benefits administration• Strong working knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance requirements• Experience working with HRIS, payroll, and recruiting systems• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and attention to detailPreferred• HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or higher)• Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, life sciences, or mission-driven organization• Familiarity with multi-state payroll, benefits, and recruiting practicesSkills & Competencies• Highly organized and detail-oriented• Practical, solutions-focused approach to HR and recruiting• Strong interpersonal and communication skills• Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion• Comfortable operating independently while collaborating closely with leadership• Trusted advisor to employees, candidates, and managers alikeWork Environment & Schedule• Full-time, exempt position• Primarily on-site, at least, four days per week to support employees, candidates, and organizational needs• Occasional flexibility required to meet recruiting, payroll, benefits, or operational deadliness
