Our campuses rely on stable, well-documented telecommunications and network systems to support staff, students, and operations across multiple states.About the RoleThe VoiP Engineeris a hands-on technical role responsible for supporting voice systems, network infrastructure, and physical connectivity across Challenger campuses and corporate offices.This role combines telecommunications support, basic networking, infrastructure installation, and help desk responsibilities. Work is performed both at a desk and onsite in classrooms, wiring closets, and equipment rooms.This position is best suited for an IT professional who values clear standards, documentation, accountability, and practical problem-solving in real-world environments.Key ResponsibilitiesTelecommunications SystemsSupport and maintain IP-PBX and digital phone systemsTroubleshoot VoIP, SIP, and analog (FXO/FXS) systemsPerform adds, moves, and changesTroubleshoot carrier services (POTS, SIP, business voice)Apply updates and patches to telecom systemsWork with carriers and vendors to resolve service issuesSupport mobile device provisioning and managementNetwork & Data CommunicationsExecute switch and router configuration changes using SOPsInstall and configure network equipmentCollect diagnostics and assist with troubleshootingWork with OEM support for break/fix issuesApply updates and patches to network systemsInfrastructure & CablingInstall and maintain structured cabling (voice and data)Perform wire termination and cable testingInstall and manage MDF, IDF, and MPOE environmentsInstall racks, cable management systems, and related hardwareSupport infrastructure projects, upgrades, and carrier transitionsWork with contractors and service providersCreate and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs)General Equipment SupportInstall and replace IT equipment (servers, UPS, desktops, peripherals)Follow established deployment and configuration standardsHelp Desk SupportProvide Tier 1-2 support for assigned systems and servicesTroubleshoot issues via phone, remote tools, and ticketing systemsSupport users across multiple campuses and remote locationsDocument issues and resolutions clearlyTravel & Schedule ExpectationsTravel to Challenger locations in Utah, California, Nevada, Idaho, and TexasApproximately 2-3 months of travel per year, with heavier travel during summerMileage and per diem reimbursement providedScheduled and occasional after-hours and weekend work requiredRequired QualificationsExperience with telecommunications systems (IP-PBX, VoIP, SIP)Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP, switching, routing)Experience troubleshooting voice and carrier servicesAbility to perform physical installation work (cabling, racks, equipment)Strong problem-solving and documentation skillsHelp desk or end-user support experienceValid driver's license and ability to travelPreferred QualificationsExperience with Mitel, ShoreTel, or similar systemsExperience with mobile device management (MDM)Experience in multi-site or campus environmentsFamiliarity with ticketing and remote support toolsPhysical RequirementsAbility to work in wiring closets, equipment rooms, and active environmentsAbility to lift and move IT equipment (up to approximately 40 lbs)Ability to use tools for cabling and equipment installationSalary $90,000-$110,000 commensurate with experienceBenefits include significant Challenger student tuition discounts for children or grandchildren, and (full-time only) health insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, and paid time off. #CSURGENT
