Accounting Manager – NonprofitLocation: Chicago, IL (Onsite)Position OverviewOur nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee and execute day-to-day transactional accounting operations. This is a highly hands-on role responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, timely close processes, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. The Accounting Manager will work onsite in our Chicago office and collaborate closely with internal teams to support the organization’s mission-driven objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesManage daily transactional accounting activities including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and payroll coordinationPrepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activitiesOversee AP/AR processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controlsMaintain the general ledger in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standardsAssist with grant tracking, restricted funds, and proper expense allocationSupport preparation for annual audit and work with external auditors as neededEnsure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirementsIdentify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracySupervise or review work of accounting staff as applicablePerform ad hoc reporting and special projects as requested by leadershipQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organizationStrong transactional accounting background with hands-on experienceSolid understanding of GAAP; nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferredExperience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reportingProficiency with accounting systems and intermediate to advanced Excel skillsDetail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in an onsite environmentStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionallyWork EnvironmentOnsite role based in Chicago, ILStandard business hours with flexibility during close and audit periodsBenefitsCompetitive salaryComprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with employer contributionPaid time off and paid holidaysMission-driven, collaborative work environmentEqual Opportunity EmployerWe are an Equal Opportunity Employer and are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace.
