Located in West Monroe, LA, our organization provides a vital service to the community with unwavering dedication.Role DescriptionThis is a part-time, on-site Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern role based in West Monroe, LA. The GIS Intern will assist in creating and maintaining spatial data, supporting mapping projects, and performing data analysis to improve public safety operations. You will collaborate with team members to ensure accuracy and efficiency and gain hands-on experience with GIS tools and applications in a dynamic public safety environment. · Assist with, verifying and distributing updated MSAGs. Reviews and correct addressing errors received by the 9-1-1 District. · Assists with ensuring that utilities, thoroughfares, structures and lots are assigned valid E-911 address points; provide guidance to other addressing authorities with re-addressing as needed. · Assist with the preparation of reports, maps, data, and other pertinent information related to E9-1-1. · Assist with the maintenance of a variety of datasets such as fire hydrants, common places, emergency service zones, subdivisions, etc. · Ability to have flexibility to work non-standard hours to assist with the performance of system upgrades, repair vital system operation in the event of failure and assist emergency service operations during time of critical events. · Performs these duties and responsibilities during scheduled work hours, shift differential, weekends and holidays as stipulated by Policy. · Maintain a positive, helpful, constructive attitude and working relationship with all Parish employees, Elected Officials and the public.QualificationsProficiency in Analytical Skills and Information ManagementStrong Communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective collaboration and documentationKnowledge of Information Technology concepts and GIS toolsESRI - ArcGIS software suite preferredAwareness or foundational understanding of Cybersecurity principlesAttention to detail and the ability to work methodically on data-heavy projectsSelf-motivated and eager to learn new technologies and tools relevant to GIS and public safetyEnrollment in or recent completion of a degree program in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred
