Job TitleAssistant Military Services Officer - CPay Rate Min to Mid Range$19.99 - $23.49Time TypeFull timeSummaryUnder direct supervision, assists Military Service Officers with scheduling, assessing, triage and screening of veterans, service members and their family. Coordinates services and guides members from active-duty military status by utilizing a continuum of services that are matched to each member's needs; Assists with the development of individualized case planning for target populations, Assists with the daily operation of the Military and Veterans Services Center. Flexibility to achieve performance excellence in a telework arrangement.Duties and Responsibilities:Serves as subject matter expert, individually motivated and operating with a sense of urgency and personal accountabilityEvaluates applicants' eligibility for public assistance programs qualifications of Veterans benefits, services, compensation, pension, death benefits, educational assistance, loans, insurance, appeals, discharge upgrades, employment services and emergency servicesProvides program information such as specific program benefits and eligibility requirements to potential clientsPrepares applications and verifies client informationSchedules customers for consultations with military service officers utilizing set criteriaManagement of client information and documents into computer database system and determines the appropriate process flow; prepares and routes documents as needed to the appropriate individuals or office/departmentsAnswers technical and routine questions in person, by phone, or electronically about office services and operations; educates and supports the public and members with research, contacts, information, processes or other resourcesMaintains records and reports in accordance with standard operating procedures and as required by other agenciesPerforms other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications:Associates Degree in Business Administration and Management, Humanities/Humanistic Studies, or Liberal Arts and Sciences or (5) five years administrative experience in a customer service or human services environment or similar; or equivalent combination of education and experienceMust obtain certification from Texas Veterans Commission within one year of employmentExperience working with Veteran and Military populationDemonstrated organizational skills with the ability to assess, develop, balance and prioritize competing priorities while maintaining a high level of professionalism; strong ability to provide a positive customer service experience; skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing; skills to effectively communicate with and support a wide variety of people of diverse backgrounds, including an understanding and respect for cultural, ethnic and individual differencesDemonstrated ability to utilize critical analysis, resourcefulness, and creativity in drafting, recommending and researching policies and utilizing skill and application of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Access, PowerPoint, Outlook); demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of visibility with members and contact with responsible representatives of the command, special interest groups, local community officials, civic organizations and other public and private officials; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside organizations and the publicDemonstrates technological intuitivenessMust have valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insuranceMust secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearanceMust clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen testMay be required to work weekendsMay be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweekPreferred Qualifications:Served on active duty in the Armed Forces and received an Honorable Discharge; or be a widowed Gold Star Mother or unmarried widow of a service member or veteran whose death resulted from service; or be the spouse of a disabled veteran who has a total disability rating based on either having a service-connected disability with a disability rating of 100 percent or on individual employability; or be the spouse of a retired veteran who served a minimum of 20 years on active dutyWorking With Bexar CountyBexar County offers employees a competitive salary, retirement, and benefits.
