We're a fast-growing, lean team in Miramar, FL where every engineer has direct impact on the products we ship.About the RoleWe're looking for a Controls & Embedded Software Engineer who thrives at the intersection of industrial automation and software development. You'll own the software and controls layer of our data destruction platforms — from PLC logic and HMI interfaces to embedded firmware and cloud-connected compliance reporting — working hands-on alongside our Mechanical and Electrical Engineering teams.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain PLC-based control logic for industrial machine systems (Delta/Omron or similar)Design and build HMI interfaces using tools such as Red Lion Crimson, Weintek EasyBuilder Pro, ProFace, or FactoryTalkWrite, test, and deploy embedded firmware and application-level software in C, C++, or PythonBuild and maintain RESTful APIs and communication layers for machine-to-cloud data reporting, audit trails, and remote diagnosticsInterface with industrial communication protocols including Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, and ControlNetRead and interpret electrical schematics; coordinate with electrical engineers on panel design and I/O mappingDevelop software for compliance reporting aligned with NIST 800-88 and DIN 66399 standardsSupport QA and compliance teams with software verification, test documentation, and release managementContribute to new product development from concept through production releaseProvide occasional field support and commissioning assistance at customer sitesRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field3+ years of experience in embedded software or controls engineering in an industrial or manufacturing environmentHands-on PLC programming experience (ladder logic, function block, or structured text)Proficiency in C, C++, or PythonExperience with industrial Ethernet protocols (Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP, or similar)Ability to read electrical schematics and collaborate with hardware engineersStrong debugging and troubleshooting skills in live industrial environmentsPreferred QualificationsExperience with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 / RSLogix or Siemens TIA Portal (S7)Familiarity with HMI development tools (Red Lion, Weintek, ProFace, or FactoryTalk)Background in compliance-driven industries (defense, government, data security, or medical)Experience with SCADA platforms (Wonderware or similar)Familiarity with Linux-based embedded platformsExperience with Git and software documentation practicesWillingness to travel occasionally for field commissioning or customer site support
