Art Teacher - Elementary (Grades 4-6)

As the Art Teacher will provide instruction congruent with the New York State Learning Standards as well as the students’ Individual Education Plan to enable students to reach their fullest physical, social-emotional, psychological, behavioral and intellectual potential. Provide direct services to School, students and administration.
As the Art Teacher, your day will include:
Developing lessons that reflect New York State Learning Standards to meet students’ Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals and objectives
Assessing students, both informally and formally, to provide an individualized classroom program
Planning and initiating activities to promote learning using specialized small group and individualized instruction
Creating a classroom learning environment that is conducive to the student’s intellectual, social, and emotional development; considers the IEP for the student and mitigating factors, including specific systems of motivation for students
Providing assistance to students with class assignments
Preparing, administering, and grading tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress
Assisting and counseling students in making realistic assessments of their abilities in establishing educational and occupational goals
Serving as a role model for students, represent appropriate behavior, anger management, and problem-solving skills
Reinforcing learning with visuals, cues, and manipulatives to assist student learning
Directing assigned teacher aide(s) to support instruction and maintain classroom behavior
Creating strategies for maintaining orderly classroom behavior on an individual and group basis
Utilizing appropriate techniques of behavior management and crisis interventions as indicated in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention guidelines; implements strategies to address escalating behaviors, i.e. time-out, discussion, conflict resolution
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications for the role:
New York State Teacher Certification: Art
OR- currently enrolled in a teacher preparation program leading to certification*
Competitive Salary starting at $44,156 per school year
Shift: Monday through Friday 7:35 AM – 2:35 PM
