Registered Nurse House Coordinator - PMC NURSING ADMIN - Plateau Medical Center Hospital

Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse shall be responsible for assessing, planning and evaluating the nursing care of patients and for correlating the nursing process, the medical plan of care and policies. The Registered Nurse House Supervisor shall be responsible for planning, supervising and coordinating the nursing care, maintaining required staffing and acting as a liaison between hospital administration and nursing staff.Responsibilities• Maintains an open line of communication with hospital administration• Assists staff with patient care on all units when necessary • Willingly assumes unit staff responsibilities when necessary• Projects and adjusts staffing for future shifts: 1. Adapts staffing to standard guidelines of acuity 2. Adapts staffing to staff mix• Generates administrative shift report and electronically delivers to administration once each shift• Able to perform all competencies for all nursing areas of the hospital served• Retrieves medications from pharmacy, a medical record from HIM/electronically with a high degree of accuracy after business hours• Accesses general stores outside of the hours of operation to obtain supplies for the units when needed• Responsible for supervising the duties of Licensed Practical Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistants, Unit Coordinators, and ancillary personnel• Communicates with Department Managers/Directors over events occurring in their department• Takes all complaints and makes every attempt to resolve at time of receipt. Places report in electronic system of event.• Will take call for hospital units when necessary• Will be on call for nursing Directors as needed• Serves as liaison for outside facilities and hospitalist for direct admissions• Assigns all patient rooms (transfers to hospital and internal)• Attends case management meetings as necessary• Attends Swing bed meetings as necessary• Ensures ombudsman form is complete for swing bed patients as necessary• Responds to all MET team activations• Responds to all CODE activations• Serves as incident command until relieved by administrative personnel• Acts as Administration outside of the hours of operation• Coordinates with administration to activate diversion when needed• Completes chart audits and PI data collection as directed by department managers/directors• Serves as team leader, running second code blue, until provider is available• Serves as scribe for provider on admissions after 7p as necessary, receiving, entering or writing orders • Serves as IV therapy nurse as necessary • Coordinates ICU coverage for 72 hours if additional patient beds needed in ICU• Rotates shifts as necessary• Flexes staffing when necessary due to volume• Receives call ins and arranges coverage as needed throughout hospital• Must be able to demonstrate competencies and skills of care appropriate to population served• Must be able to handle any situation that may arise in the hospital in absence of the department directors, DON and the CNO• Assume accountability for clinical component of patient management in absence of the department directors, DON and the CNO• Communicates daily with the department directors and the CNO/VP regarding clinical care of hospitalized patients• Gathers NEDOC data to initiate surge policy as neededKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesPatient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.
