Salary range:
A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $8,872-$11,576 (based on salary points 1-10). Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.
Percent time:
Variable, based on the course load assigned.
Anticipated start:
Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2025 through fall quarter 2026. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.
Position duration:
Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position description
The Department of Politics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach in any of the sub-fields of political science (American, comparative, theory, and international relations).
Applicants should be prepared to teach undergraduate courses at the lower or upper division level, consistent with the Politics Department curriculum. Courses include but are not limited to the political theory course series (Ancient Political Thought, Early Modern Political Thought, Modern Political Thought, and Contemporary Political Theory), the U.S. politics course series (Congress, President, and the Court in American Politics; Society and Democracy in the American Political Development; and State and Capitalism in American Political Development); the comparative politics course series (European Politics, Latin American Politics, and Politics in East Asia), and the international politics course series (Theories of International and World Politics; International Law; Security, Conflict, Violence, War; and International Political Economy).
Applicants with any of the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: Ph.D. in political science or related field and/or evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties.

M.A./M.S. (or equivalent foreign degree) in political science or a closely related field such as government or international relations.
