Job CaptainThe Foothill Catalog Foundation EmployerPasadena, CA, US (remote possible)Location:Thu, May 28 '26Posted On$80,000 - $90,000 annually Pay:Job SummaryJob Captains are responsible for the production of coordinated, permit-and bid-ready documentation for preapproved home designs, while also providing management support of the design team to other Project Architects and the Creative Director. This role focuses on the production, implementation, and management of design work - through BIM modeling and coordination, and ensuring consistent application of established design standards, integration of consultant input, and compliance with relevant codes.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesJob Captains will report directly to the Project Architects and the Creative Director. Supervisory responsibilities of junior design staff and potential interns will be expected, as will constant communication with the entire design team.QualificationsExcellent interpersonal skills with a track record of effective collaboration and relationship-buildingStrong competency BIM software and Adobe Creative SuiteKnowledge of single-family residential permitting and constructionVaried qualifications and availability will dictate responsibility within the organizationManagement capabilities of small to medium-sized teamsWorking knowledge of the LABC and LAMCEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s of Architecture degree or equivalent3-5+ years experience in a professional architectural settingPrior experience managing architectural staff as well as project management experienceExperience with single family residential design preferredPermitting experience in the City of Los Angeles preferredResponsibilitiesDrawing Production, Oversight & Quality ControlLead the development of standard home plans in Revit, ensuring full integration of shared templates, keynotes, assemblies, and drafting standards.Manage and support Designers and Draftspersons in producing high-quality drawing sets that clearly reflect design intent and are ready for permitting.Oversee internal drawing reviews, redlines, and coordination rounds to maintain clarity, consistency, and quality across all drawing sets.Ensure each design adheres to organizational standards as established by the Creative Director and Executive Director.BIM & Consultant CoordinationLead BIM coordination workflows, integrating structural, MEP, energy, and other consultant inputs into the central model and documentation.Proactively identify and resolve spatial, technical, and sequencing conflicts across disciplines using Revit and coordination tools.Collaborate with construction activities (via the Director of Building Operations) to incorporate constructability feedback and revise plans accordingly.Maintain a clear audit trail of drawing changes and coordinate consultant updates to ensure alignment across all disciplines.Code, Specification & Permitting StandardsEnsure all drawing sets are compliant with California Building Code (CBC), California Residential Code (CRC), Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI), and relevant jurisdictional standards.Maintain and refine shared specification content (materials, assemblies, performance requirements) in alignment with TFCF’s sustainability and resilience goals.Guide team members in the application of code and specification standards, and support resolution of plan check comments in coordination with senior leadership.Team Leadership & CommunicationOrganize constant drawing check-ins with other staff and manage workflows across multiple plans to ensure deadlines are met.Provide technical mentorship to junior design staff and help uphold a culture of quality, consistency, and shared learning.Communicate proactively with the Creative Director and other leaders about project progress, staffing needs, and coordination issues.
