Our mission is to develop innovative, energy-efficient cooling technologies that exceed customer expectations while advancing sustainable thermal management solutions.Position SummaryThe Chief Research & Development Scientist serves as the company's principal technical authority for refrigeration science and advanced thermal systems. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role leads to the research, development, testing, and commercialization of next-generation refrigerant-based cooling technologies.This position combines scientific research with product development, translating innovative concepts into commercially viable products that strengthen OptiCool's technology leadership.ResponsibilitiesLead the research and development of advanced refrigeration and thermal management technologies.Design refrigeration systems at both component and system levels.Perform thermodynamic, heat transfer, fluid flow, and refrigeration cycle analyses.Conduct thermal load calculations and component sizing for compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, expansion devices, and other refrigeration equipment.Utilize analytical and simulation tools to predict system performance and optimize product designs.Define product requirements, engineering specifications, and design constraints.Lead prototype development, laboratory validation, and performance testing.Develop experimental test methods and analyze test data to validate new technologies.Guide mechanical and refrigeration system design through analytical modeling and engineering best practices.Lead technical design reviews and mentor engineering staff.Contribute to patents, invention disclosures, and intellectual property development.Evaluate emerging refrigeration technologies and recommend strategic product innovations.Required QualificationsEducationPh.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.Master's degree with significant industrial R&D experience will be considered.Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.Experience15+ years of experience in refrigeration, HVAC, thermal systems, or related technologies.Proven success leading research and development programs from concept through commercialization.Experience developing innovative products within a structured engineering environment.Demonstrated technical leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams.Technical ExpertiseStrong knowledge of:Refrigeration system designVapor-compression refrigerationPumped refrigerant systemsHeat transfer and thermodynamicsFluid mechanicsRefrigerant cycle analysisHeat exchanger designThermal system modeling and simulationEngineering analysis softwareLaboratory testing and product validationComponent selection and system optimizationPreferred QualificationsData center cooling systemsTwo-phase cooling technologiesRear-door heat exchangersDirect liquid coolingMicrochannel heat exchangersCFD and thermal simulation softwareProduct certification and regulatory compliancePatent development and intellectual propertyHeater core and advanced heat exchanger designWhat You'll BringStrong scientific curiosity and innovative thinking.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Strategic technical leadership.Ability to solve complex engineering challenges.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Passion for developing industry-leading cooling technologies.Why Join OptiCool?You'll help shape the future of high-performance data center cooling by leading breakthrough technologies that improve energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and solve some of the industry's most challenging thermal management problems.
