DescriptionThe Hampton University School of Pharmacy invites nominations and applications for highly motivated applicants for the position of Assistant Dean of Student Affairs beginning September 1, 2025. This position requires candidates with the requiste educational qualifications and experience to be appointed at the level of Assistant Professor or higher in the School of Pharmacy.About Hampton UniversityFounded in 1868, Hampton University (HU) is a leading Historically Black University (HBCU) located on the Virginia Peninsula in the City of Hampton. HU is a privately endowed, co educational, nonsectarian institution. It is located on the east coast of Virginia in the picturesque Hampton Roads area that includes the cities of Hampton, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Newport News.Description of the SchoolHampton University School of Pharmacy established a new Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program that has achieved approval of Candidate Status from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in July 2025. The School has already enrolled students into the program with an anticipated graduation date for its first cohort in May 2028. The school currently offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with minors in Pharmaceutical Science, Environmental Health Science, and Public Health.Mission of the Hampton University School of PharmacyOur mission is to produce a cadre of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists who have a keen awareness and understanding of the health inequities encountered by underserved and vulnerable populations. Duties and Responsibilities for the position:The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs reports to the Dean of the School of Pharmacy. The responsibilities of this position include coordination of all facets of student recruitment, admissions, and retention; providing a broad range of student services, assisting with accreditation and grantsmanship activities and other duties assigned by the Dean. The Assistant Dean works closely with the Dean, is a member of the Executive Council, assists the Dean in managing the daily operations of the School and represents the Dean in his or her absence.Specific duties include but are not limited to:Oversee HUSOP Admissions and Recruitment, including the Recruitment PlanOversee and Coordinate HU Pharm Ready Program along with Academic AffairsOversee and Coordinate Annual New Student OrientationOversee and Coordinate Student Advisement activities, and assist with coordination of P1 Success WeekOversee the Forum course that is designed to offer information on career opportunitiesOversee several components of Student Affairs including the Student Handbook (Professional & Undergraduate), FERPA compliance, disability services compliance, and all aspects of student services including housing, mental health referrals, etc.)Conduct Staff evaluationsServe on various HUSOP and University Committees as both full or Ex-Officio member, and Chair the Student Affairs and Admissions committees.Provide oversight on student admissions including updating the rubric, managing interviews & generation of the final selection list, and other admissions componentsOversee Student Officer Guidelines for student leadership positions and guide selection of students for committeesIdentifying and tracking students each semester who do not meet SOP academic standards including students who will be placed on probation, suspension and dismissal.Serving as primary advisor for all sophomore pre-pharmacy students and secondary advisor for all pharmacy studentsEnsuring compliance with accreditation standards related to student affairs, with particular emphasis on ACPE Standard 4 (2025)Oversee grievance for non-academic matters, including student professional conduct mattersAssist HUSOP Dean with alignment of Strategic PlanAssist HUSOP Dean with Coordination of Financial AidCoordinate student tutoring, mentorship, and oversee the Alumni Mentorship programOversee management of student databases, and work closely with the Offices of Academic Affairs and Assessment to ensure compliance with reporting and accreditation requirements.Providing instruction in school programs in areas of expertiseMaintaining an active program in scholarly activityProviding general support to the program by attending University, Community and Professional events, and undertaking any additional responsibilities as assigned by the DeanQualifications Academic Qualifications: Terminal degree in a health professions or biomedical sciences discipline.
