To learn more about the Press, visit www.uncpress.org/about. Role DescriptionUNC Press and its subsidiary distribution services organization, Longleaf Services, are seeking a highly capable Senior Human Resources Manager to lead and manage all aspects of the HR function. As the sole HR professional supporting both organizations, this role offers a unique opportunity to shape HR strategy, drive employee engagement, and directly influence organizational success.This is a hands-on, high-impact role ideal for an experienced HR manager who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.What You'll DoLead and manage all HR programs, policies, and initiatives across both organizationsReview, update, and implement HR policies to ensure compliance and effectivenessOversee monthly payroll processing and administration of employee benefits programsManage full-cycle recruiting, hiring, and onboarding processesDesign and improve performance management systems to support employee developmentServe as a trusted advisor on employee relations and workplace concernsEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, etc.)Partner with leadership to support organizational planning and workforce strategyDevelop and deliver training programs to enhance employee and manager effectivenessManage relationships with external vendors (benefits providers, advisors, consultants)Liaise with UNC System and UNC Chapel Hill HR officesWhat We're Looking ForRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Psychology, or related field (or equivalent experience)6–8+ years of progressive HR experience in a generalist or manager roleStrong working knowledge of employment law and HR complianceExperience managing multiple HR functions (recruiting, payroll, employee relations, benefits)Excellent communication and organizational skillsAbility to work independently and manage competing prioritiesPreferred QualificationsExperience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organizationFamiliarity with UNC or North Carolina public sector environmentsPHR or SHRM-CP certificationCompensation & BenefitsSalary: $75,000 – $95,000 annually (exempt)Benefits include paid vacation, paid holidays, sick leave, and health insurance. We are part of the North Carolina State Retirement system.Work EnvironmentThis is a full-time, fully onsite position based in Chapel Hill, NC. There is some flexibility for occasional hybrid work-from-home.
