Tractor and Chassis Inspector
Work Schedule Comments: Generally, Monday-Friday 7am-4pm, Weekends as neededPosition Overview: A multifaceted role encompassing depot and safety responsibilities that provides support to depot, safety, and operations by conducting or facilitating the inspection, maintenance and repair of terminal facilities and equipment.Essential Depot Functions:Evaluate the overall condition, safety, and functionality of truck units and trailers, including mechanical, structural, and cosmetic componentsVisually inspect vehicles to ensure any vehicle maintenance violations are corrected (brake adjustments, lights, air lifts, tires, leaks etc.)Capture clear, accurate information of inspected equipment to document condition and support inspection findings.Maintain consistency, accuracy, and professionalism in all inspection documentationPrepare detailed written descriptions and reports verifying the condition of trucks and trailersInputs data into the Depot computer systemInspect equipment and note any damageAbility to train and communicate with drivers about inspection violations and vehicle defectsCommunicate clearly with fleet stakeholders regarding inspection results when necessaryCorrect and update system with correct unit numbers or units needing to be placed on holdOther duties as assignedEssential Safety Compliance Functions:Partner with Safety to Install or remove in-vehicle camera and gatewayApply or remove vehicle decalsComplete daily lot checks observing security breaches, damaged equipment, etc.Perform comprehensive inspections of semi-truck units and trailers in accordance with DOT's standardized inspection criteriaComplete company-owned chassis inspections & ensure FHWA's are currentCoordinate installation of fixed safety-related communications or equipmentAssist with on-site emergency response to accidents/incidents on premisesFollow company policies, safety guidelines, and inspection proceduresDesired Skills/Abilities:CDL Highly PreferredAbility to work flexible hours in demanding physical conditions, including exposure to extreme temperatures and heavy equipmentAbility to conduct CMV driver safety and operations instruction and trainingSkill to operate handheld tools and knowledge to complete basic maintenance projectsPossess basic knowledge of workplace safety, fleet maintenance, and transportation regulationsProfessional Communications - electronic, e-mail and in personAbility to make independent decisions with limited supervisionPossess office skills, such as scanning, Data entry, document processing, MS Office suite, using 3rd party web programs, picture transfer/uploadingSupport additional projects that arise in the depot or other duties as assigned*$55k-$60k salary range based on experience
