We are searching for our next Medical Biller/Receptionist—someone who can thrive in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to patient records. We need someone who can answer patient questions regarding billing and generate for the purposes of billing and research, and to provide information to government and regulatory agencies. Think you’ve got what it takes? Responsibilities and Duties Billing Responsibilities: Process “in-coming” medical records. Process requests for “outgoing” medical records (Senior Biller supervision) Perform patient outreach for “insurance ineligible” (both forecasted and current) to resolve or prepare the patient for resolution at or before their next office appointment. Perform patient outreach for “workers compensation” Perform patient outreach to collect “hot list” patient outstanding balances, especially prior to a new scheduled appointment. Service patient “Billing Phone Calls” (escalate to Senior Biller per escalation protocol) Monitor patient correspondence. Answer patient questions. Escalate to the Senior Biller as appropriate. Assist patients with the creation of “Payment Plans” Educate/promote the Athena Patient Portal to patients as a means of managing their billing. Follow-up with patients on unpaid claims (assigned by Senior Biller) and seek to resolve. Resolve insurance payment discrepancies (assigned by Senior Biller) with insurance companies. Patient Reception Responsibilities: * Register a “New Patient” into the practice “Schedule” patients for appointments in Athena. Process patient “self pay” requests. Perform patient “check in” and “check out” through Athena. Perform daily patient appointment “maintenance” Set up “Patient Portal Accounts” - Orient to use. Qualifications and Skills Required Two (2) years of related experience Preferred Associate degree Experience within a primary care office setting Customer service skills for interacting with patients regarding medical claims and payments, including communicating with patients and family members of diverse ages and backgrounds. Reception experience/competent phone performance Required prior billing and/or coding experience Knowledge of medical terminology likely to be encountered in medical claims. Preferred American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) course for health care providers Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 Coding Experience using an electronic medical record Ability to work well in a team environment. Being able to triage priorities, delegate tasks if needed, and handle conflict in a reasonable fashion.
