Hospice Director of Nursing

Job Description Description:About the RoleWe are seeking a compassionate and experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead our hospice care team. This role is central to ensuring that patients and families receive the highest quality of end-of-life care, while maintaining compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and oversight for all hospice nursing staff.Ensure delivery of patient-centered, compassionate care in alignment with hospice philosophy.Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing policies, procedures, and standards of care.Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff performance.Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (physicians, social workers, chaplains, volunteers).Manage staffing schedules, caseload assignments, and on-call rotations.Review, implement, and oversee physician orders for medications and treatments.Ensure accurate administration, documentation, and monitoring of prescribed medications.Coordinate medication management, including reconciliation, patient/family education, and compliance with regulatory standards.Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements (Medicare, state licensure, accreditation).Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education programs.Serve as a liaison with patients, families, and community partners.What We OfferCompetitive salary and benefits package.Mileage reimbursement.Generous paid time off and flexible scheduling.Ongoing professional development and training opportunities.A supportive, mission-driven work environment focused on dignity and compassion.Requirements:QUALIFICATIONSCurrent Registered Nurse (RN) license in Minnesota.Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN required; MSN preferred).Minimum 3–5 years of hospice or palliative care experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.Strong knowledge of hospice regulations and standards of practice.Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
