*No recruiters, please*Controller/Accounting ManagerHouston, TXDescriptionMission of the Position: St. Luke’s United Methodist Church is seeking a highly skilled and purpose-driven Controller / Accounting Manager to steward the financial operations of our church and affiliated ministries. This is more than an accounting role—it’s an opportunity to use your expertise to support a vibrant, growing faith community and the ministries that serve it.Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, this role plays a critical leadership function in ensuring financial integrity, operational excellence, and wise stewardship of resources that directly impact lives.What You’ll Do: Lead Core Accounting OperationsOwn and execute the full month-end close process across multiple entitiesPrepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reportsMaintain the general ledger, including journal entries and reconciliationsEnsure compliance with GAAP standards and internal policiesManage fixed assets, allocations, and inter company transactionsOversee A/P & Payroll FunctionsSupervise Accounts Payable and Payroll processes with strong internal controlsReview invoices, payroll, and credit card transactions for accuracy and complianceManage ACH payments, wire transfers, and Positive Pay processesOversee 1099 preparation and IRS complianceLead and develop A/P and Payroll team membersOwn the Audit ProcessServe as the primary contact for external auditorsLead the full audit lifecycle across church and foundation entitiesPrepare key audit schedules, documentation, and financial statementsCoordinate governance and compliance materialsDrive Budgeting & Financial StrategyLead the annual budget process from planning through presentationPartner with ministry leaders on budget-to-actual analysisProvide insights and reporting to committees and leadershipSupport Governance & ComplianceMaintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controlsAssist with Form 990 preparation for foundation entitiesParticipate in committees and boards as a financial advisorRequirementsExperience & EducationBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)CPA strongly preferred7+ years of accounting/finance experience3–5 years of leadership or supervisory experienceNonprofit or church accounting experience (highly preferred)Technical SkillsAdvanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables required)Experience with systems like Sage Intacct, Paylocity, Procare, or The Rock (preferred)Core StrengthsStrong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple prioritiesExcellent communicator—able to translate financial data into clear insightsStrategic thinker with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindsetHigh integrity and commitment to accountabilityFaith & Culture FitA committed follower of Jesus aligned with the mission of St. Luke’sComfortable integrating faith and work in a ministry environmentCollaborative, diplomatic, and steady under pressureSalary Range $90 - $100KApply Here - https://recruiting.paylocity.com/recruiting/jobs/All/3951b51f-b1c2-4857-8d76-c74c294e498c/St-Lukes-United-Methodist-Church
