Job DescriptionHow will this role impact First Command?The Cloud Engineer position is responsible for design, installation, configuration, operation, and administration of First Command’s highly available hybrid cloud environment. Working within an agile shared services team, the position enables stable infrastructure for applications and participates in maintaining repeatable processes through automation of build, deployment, and proactive monitoring activities. The candidate must be able to understand developing trends in hybrid cloud technologies and practically apply solutions to meet stated business needs. The position drives cloud technology, operations but also requires knowledge of on-premise datacenter resources. The position requires ability to make recommendations based on solid technical acumen, assist project teams as required, and provide third-tier support for issue resolution.The Cloud Engineer has subject matter experience in two or more of the following areas: Cloud Computing, Cloud Storage, Virtual Networks, Automation/Infrastructure as Code, Secure Networking, and DevSecOps. in an Azure or AWS cloud environment.What will the employee do in this role?Works with supervision to establish, monitor and maintain Azure cloud environment, systems hardware, operating systems, and related network and security infrastructure to ensure reliable operationsMonitor Azure maintenance and outages, assess impact, and develop strategies to minimize impactCollaborate, consult, coordinate task level work with developers and scrum teams on compute resource needs expansion or new feature deployment. Ensure that network and system capacity projections are accurate and prevent service degradations due to lack of resourcesBuilds and automates cloud infrastructure current methods, templates and automation toolsetsOptimize network infrastructure for IaaS, SaaS, PaaS and other cloud applicationsProduce and maintain documentation for use in the installation, configuration, operation and maintenance of cloud and on-premise related infrastructureResearch connectivity, performance and related security issues to determine root cause and implement a plan of action to resolve these issuesParticipate in design and implementation of architectural roadmaps regarding Hybrid cloud infrastructureDesign technical infrastructure & cloud processes, integrate solutions into existing infrastructure, consult on development projects, help deploy solutions that meet business and technical requirementsCoordinate with service providers, vendors and various First Command teams to ensure timely resolution of infrastructure related issues Participate in on-call rotation and be available for special duties outside normal working hoursWhat skills & qualifications do you need? EducationBachelor Degree in computer science or similar field requiredWork ExperienceRequired 5+ years progressive working in computing or network infrastructure3+ years’ experience in a cloud environment, preferably Azure as a cloud network engineer, administrator, and/or DevOps roleDemonstrated experience building and operating cloud infrastructureExperience in automation (Infrastructure-as-Code, Configuration-as-Code) and management of both on-premises infrastructure and applications, cloud hosted Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service capabilities (Azure) including virtual machines, virtual networks, and automation toolsExperience with CI/CD platforms and tools such as Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, Azure Dev Ops or similarBe able to deploy through automation and translate from and/or contribute to application design architectures for AzureExperience with infrastructure monitoring tools and DevOps processesExperience with load balancing platformsPrefer Experience With The Following TechnologiesMicrosoft Windows Server 2019/2016/2012 Cloud Infrastructure (Azure or AWS)Securing and monitoring cloud resourcesLinux/Unix Cisco Route/Switch platformsPalo Alto or related cloud-based firewall technologiesCertifications Current MCSE preferredCurrent Azure certifications preferredCurrent AWS certifications a plusCisco (CCNA, CCNP) a plusRequired Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesRecognize, troubleshoot, and resolve and system issues without supervisionCritical ThinkingTrouble shooting and performance tuningDocument and distribute system reports as requiredRequired to work within a team environmentExcellent written and oral communication skills including explaining complex technical concepts to all partiesExcellent customer service skills
