Senior Python / AWS Web Application Developer – Revenue Fare Management SystemsPosition DetailsPosition: Senior Python / AWS Web Application DeveloperTeam: Revenue Fare Management SystemsClient: MTA ,New YorkRate: $60/hr on C2CWork Arrangement: Hybrid Remote, with a greater emphasis on onsite workDomain: Revenue / Fare Management / TransportationPrimary Focus: Back-office web application development, APIs, cloud development, and legacy revenue application modernizationRole OverviewThe qualified candidate will work within the Revenue Fare Management Systems team, performing back-office web application development to support the Railroad's legacy revenue applications.The role will also contribute to development efforts for the New Fare Payment System and the roadmap to merge and unify LIRR and MNR revenue applications.The ideal candidate should be highly proficient in Python web development, AWS cloud development, API development, Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, SQL/Oracle PL/SQL, and modern web technologies, while also understanding customer experience, usability, accessibility, and web application security.Key ResponsibilitiesApplication & API DevelopmentDevelop and implement custom modules and APIs using Python.Build and deploy real-time transaction systems supporting ticket validation.Develop and maintain web-based applications and APIs.Build frontends for internal applications.Build customer-facing web application frontends.Develop third-party application integrations.AWS Cloud & DeploymentDevelop and deploy applications using AWS Cloud.Configure and maintain AWS API Gateway.Work with AWS IAM / Identity Center.Implement server and serverless deployment strategies.Containerize applications using Docker.Deploy and manage applications using Kubernetes/EKS.Support release and deployment planning and execution.Web Development & User ExperienceDevelop applications using HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and AJAX.Create visually appealing and usable interfaces.Ensure cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device compatibility.Test applications for accessibility and applicable standards.Conduct observational user testing.Review designs against usability heuristics.Apply user experience design principles to online customer experiences.Apply web application security considerations and best practices.Database & ScriptingWork with SQL and Oracle PL/SQL.Perform data modeling and object-oriented design.Develop and maintain Windows and Linux scripts using PowerShell and Bash.Work with application data and database integrations.Development Practices & CollaborationParticipate in daily meetings, planning sessions, and review sessions.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure complete delivery of web applications.Participate in code reviews and development planning.Maintain development documentation and tooling.Provide accurate level-of-effort estimates.Recommend feature prioritization.Provide routine project status updates.Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and changing requirements.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.Strong experience developing web-based applications and APIs.Advanced Python web development experience.Experience with Django and/or FastAPI.Strong knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and AJAX.Strong AWS Cloud development and deployment experience.Experience configuring AWS API Gateway.Experience with Docker containerization.Experience with Kubernetes / Amazon EKS.Experience with AWS IAM / Identity Center.Experience with server and serverless deployment strategies.Experience with PowerShell and Bash scripting.Strong SQL and Oracle PL/SQL skills.Experience with GitHub/source control systems.Understanding of object-oriented design and data modeling.Strong analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.Preferred / Plus QualificationsFinancial, fare management, or revenue application experience.AWS Cloud Developer certification.Python, PHP, SQL, and Oracle PL/SQL expertise.Experience with third-party applications and integrations.Knowledge of SEO coding best practices.Experience with UX design principles and processes.Knowledge of web application security.Experience developing real-time transaction systems.Experience supporting large-scale application modernization or consolidation initiatives.
