DescriptionPosition Title: Athletic DirectorReports To: PresidentDepartment: AthleticsClassification: Full-Time, 12-Month, Exempt, Benefits EligiblePOSITION SUMMARYThe Athletic Director provides visionary leadership and comprehensive oversight of all intercollegiate athletic programs at LeMoyne-Owen College. This role is responsible for the strategic direction, administration, and operational excellence of the athletics department, including personnel management, student-athlete success, compliance, budgeting, facilities, and external relations.The Athletic Director advances a culture of excellence that aligns with the mission, values, and legacy of LeMoyne-Owen College, with a strong emphasis on student-athlete academic achievement, competitive success, character development, and post-graduate readiness.The Athletic Director reports directly to the President and serves as a key member of the College's leadership team.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership & AdministrationProvide strategic leadership and oversight for all varsity athletic programsSupervise, hire, evaluate, and develop coaches and athletic staffFoster a high-performance culture centered on accountability, integrity, and student successDevelop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for athletics aligned with institutional prioritiesCompliance & GovernanceEnsure full compliance with all applicable rules and regulations, including those of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), NCAA Division II, and Title IXOversee institutional control measures and risk management protocolsMaintain accurate reporting and documentation related to compliance and eligibilityStudent-Athlete SuccessPromote academic achievement, retention, and graduation of student-athletesEnsure holistic development including leadership, wellness, and career readinessOversee recruitment strategies that align with enrollment and institutional goalsFinancial Management & OperationsDevelop, manage, and steward the athletics budget with fiscal responsibilityApprove expenditures, contracts, travel, and schedulingOversee facilities planning, maintenance, and game-day operationsAdvancement, Fundraising & External RelationsWork in close collaboration with the Office of Institutional Advancement to develop and execute a comprehensive athletics fundraising strategy, including annual giving, major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and special eventsCultivate and steward relationships with alumni, donors, corporate partners, and community stakeholdersServe as a visible ambassador for the College, promoting athletics through media, community engagement, and strategic partnershipsSupport initiatives related to athletic branding, marketing, and revenue generationProgram OversightProvide direct oversight of all varsity programs, including:Men's and Women's Cross CountryMen's and Women's Track & FieldMen's and Women's BasketballMen's and Women's VolleyballMen's and Women's TennisWomen's SoftballMen's BaseballMen's GolfCommunications & Digital PresenceOversee athletics communications, including social media and official athletics platformsEnsure consistent brand alignment with institutional messagingOther DutiesPerform additional responsibilities as assigned by the PresidentMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferredSignificant leadership experience in intercollegiate athletics, preferably at the NCAA Division II levelDemonstrated success in athletics administration, including compliance, budgeting, personnel management, and student-athlete developmentProven experience in fundraising, donor engagement, and external relationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIESStrong leadership and organizational management skillsDemonstrated commitment to student-athlete holistic successAbility to lead in a dynamic, resource-conscious environmentExcellent communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skillsHigh level of integrity and professionalismUnderstanding of the mission, history, and cultural significance of LeMoyne-Owen College, particularly as an HBCUWORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects.
