Unlicensed Diabetic Care Assistant
Core Responsibilities
Blood Glucose Monitoring: Assisting with or performing routine fingerstick blood glucose checks using a glucometer, and accurately recording the results.
Vital Signs: Measuring and logging vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration).
Meal & Nutrition Assistance: Helping students adhere to dietary guidelines as planned(e.g., carbohydrate counting, making sure they eat regular meals/snacks, and documenting exact food/liquid intake)
Symptom Observation: Monitoring for and instantly reporting signs of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar, such as sweating or shakiness) or hyperglycemia (high blood sugar, such as extreme thirst or fruity-smelling breath).
Emergency Response: Depending on facility-specific training, this can include administering emergency treatments like Glucagon, and calling emergency services or the supervising nurse when necessary
Nursing Assistance as directed by the supervising nurse.
Record Keeping as directed by the supervising nurse.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED
Professional attitude and ability to maintain confidential information
Position will be reevaluated each year for continued need
