A Forensic Latent Fingerprint Analyst I learns to perform a wide variety of tasks associated with the examination, collection, and preservation of latent (unknown) fingerprint ridge detail and the subsequent comparison with known finger and palm print exemplars in an attempt to establish identity. The presence of Forensic Latent Fingerprint Analysts may be required at crime scenes to assist with evidence gathering and processing, and at autopsies to attempt to identify unknown deceased persons.Key ResponsibilitiesLearns to evaluate latent print evidence for overall quality to establish identity. Learns to perform fingerprint comparisons to establish the identity of latent ridge detail. Prepares written reports documenting the examination performed and conclusions reached. Learns to examine and process physical evidence to develop latent print evidence. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Regular handling of sharp surgical instruments.
