Referral Coordinator
Medical Incoming Referral Coordinator needed in busy clinical area. This person will be centrally located in the centralized check in area at the Pat Wall Clinic and provide backup/overflow help with phones and check in procedures.
The Medical Incoming Referral Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating patient referrals within GPRMC specialty Clinics. They facilitate the seamless transfer of patients to specialists or other healthcare providers, ensuring timely access to necessary medical services. Key responsibilities include:
Reviewing medical records and clinical documentation to determine the need for specialist consultations or diagnostic tests.
Collaborating with healthcare providers to assess patients’ healthcare needs.
Identifying appropriate specialists or facilities based on patients’ needs and insurance coverage.
Scheduling specialist appointments and procedures for patients.
Maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient referrals, including referral forms and documentation of communication.
Ensuring compliance with documentation and data entry protocols.
Informing patients about their referral appointments, including date, time, location, and any special instructions.
Verifying patient insurance coverage for specialist visits and diagnostic tests.
Obtaining any necessary pre-authorization or pre-certification from insurance providers.
Monitoring and tracking the status of patient referrals, ensuring that appointments are kept and results are received.
Communicating with patients to confirm appointments and provide reminders.
Generating reports on referral activity, including tracking referral outcomes and referral volume.
Providing regular updates to healthcare providers and management on referral trends and issues.
Collaborating with healthcare providers and staff to identify opportunities for improving the referral process.
Implementing quality improvement initiatives related to referral coordination.
Ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and relevant state and federal guidelines. Maintaining confidentiality and security of patient information.
