Engineering Technician - III
Engineering Technician - Mid-Level
Full-time; On-site; El Segundo, CA
This is a hands-on production role. Engineering Technicians are directly responsible for building and integrating our production machines. Technicians own assigned subassemblies and build stages, execute work from engineering documentation, troubleshoot issues during integration, and are responsible for delivering completed work that meets our quality and production standards.
*What You’ll Do*
* Own the hands-on assembly and integration of production machines, taking responsibility for assigned subassemblies and machine build stages from start to completion.
* Build and integrate mechanical, electrical, and fluid subassemblies including actuators, structures, harnesses, motors, sensors, pumps, valves, and other electro-mechanical systems.
* Execute production builds using engineering drawings, BOMs, build instructions, and established manufacturing standards, ensuring work is completed accurately and to specification.
* Independently perform subassembly builds, machine integration, rework, and final installation while maintaining production quality and schedule.
* Perform harness builds, crimping, routing, rework, and electrical integration accurately for development and production machines.
* Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and fluid-system issues during assembly, machine bring-up, and testing; contribute to root-cause investigations.
* Support machine bring-up, subassembly ATP, and system-level testing and work directly with engineers to diagnose and resolve issues.
* Identify discrepancies between hardware, drawings, BOMs, build instructions, and actual machine conditions; communicate issues early and help drive them to resolution.
* Provide feedback on build instructions, tooling, fixtures, and processes to improve build repeatability, quality, and efficiency.
* Adapt quickly to frequent hardware and process iterations and incorporate engineering changes into active production builds.
* Maintain a clean, organized production environment and properly manage tools, workspace, and parts.
* Work closely with the Production Coordinator to prioritize work, manage build tasks, and maintain and meet production cadence and delivery schedules.
* Support field deployments, machine upgrades, and troubleshooting as needed.
* Help train and support junior technicians and interns on build processes, tools, and our manufacturing standards.
*What You’ll Need*
* 4+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, robotics, automation, test, field service, or a similar fast-paced build environment with frequent design and process iterations.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication.
* Ability to independently read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring schematics, harness diagrams, BOMs, and build instructions.
* Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems including PCBAs, motors, actuators, sensors, and wiring.
* Ability to quickly learn new hardware, processes, and standards and adapt when requirements change.
* Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
* Demonstrated ownership, reliability, and ability to independently manage assigned work.
* Comfortable switching between mechanical assembly, electrical troubleshooting, and basic plumbing.
*Required Technical Experience*
* Industrial crimping tools, D-sub, and circular connectors
* Low-voltage electrical systems and safe troubleshooting practices
* Pumps, valves, pneumatics, or similar fluid systems
* Prototype bring-up and rapid hardware iteration
* Experience supporting hardware testing and troubleshooting
* Experience working from engineering drawings, BOMs, and build instructions in a production or development environment
*Preferred / Bonus Experience*
* Basic Linux command line
* Python or other scripting
* Hardware-in-the-loop testing
* Field deployments or customer-site installations
* Robotics or industrial automation
* Preventive maintenance and equipment troubleshooting
