Residential Drafter
Position Overview:
The Residential Drafter plays a critical role in transforming conceptual home designs into accurate, build-ready construction documents. This position supports sales, design, and construction teams by producing detailed drawings used for permitting, pricing, and field execution. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of residential construction methods, local building codes, and CAD drafting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed construction drawings including floor plans, elevations, sections, and details for single-family homes
Revise and customize base floor plans to reflect buyer selections, structural options, and community requirements
Produce permit-ready plan sets in compliance with local building codes, zoning requirements, and jurisdictional standards
Coordinate with engineering consultants (structural, mechanical, energy) to incorporate required revisions
Support the sales and design teams by providing marketing plans, option sheets, and visual drawings
Update drawings based on field feedback, change orders, and construction conditions
Maintain organized digital files and ensure version control of plans
Assist with the development of new floor plans, elevations, and product offerings
Respond to plan-related questions from construction, purchasing, and field teams
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
2+ years of experience drafting residential homes, preferably for a production or semi-custom homebuilder
Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit experience a plus, depending on builder workflow)
Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and terminology
Familiarity with local building codes, zoning regulations, and permitting processes
High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple plans and deadlines
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with semi-custom or custom home designs
Knowledge of energy codes, structural coordination, and lot-specific plan adjustments
Experience supporting sales or design studios with client-facing drawings

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
